Right now I am running a 07 VH4 and 05 Herbert. Both loaded with EL34's!
I like the mids and tightness of the VH4 a bit more than the Herbert.
The Herbert is freaking amazing, I do a lot of Tool covers and I feel as though the VH4 works a bit better for this.

I have been trying to trade the Herb for a VH4 Blueface (ya I know good luck right?)

Since this is almost impossible for me to do, I am thinking of getting a second VH4 Silverface maybe from 05 or back and load it with 6L6 power tubes.
This way I have 2 VH4's running together with some differences rather than 1 herb and 1 VH4.

Let me know you thoughts.

I love the VH4. I still think its the best amp ever made.
I love my '08 vh4 and agree it IS the best amps around
I'd love to try a blueface old script next to my '08
Next amp i'll buy will be another Diezel....

Couple things...

a) You're not nuts, this is just what you wanna do, so that's cool.
b) The original Blueface is a different amp for sure, and good luck getting one is right.
c) The reissues of the Blueface that were floating about a while ago are the same amps as the silverface, just with a blue faceplate and 6L6s
d) You can get what you want by getting another silverface, load it with 6L6s and maybe a lower gain preamp glass section. Try and recreate the lower gain of the original blue.

This sounds pretty exciting.

Hey, did I ever mention I dig VH4 amps?

Keep your eyes open on CL and eBay, as well as the RT classifieds. You'll find what you're looking for, and in the interim, maybe list your Herbert to get the ball rolling.

Perhaps bananaladonpcp wants to buy yer Herbert :D

I cant be without the Herbert unless its for the VH4 lol
I am looking for a trade :)
I put up a great offer someone should go for it.

The 2011 bluefaces did NOT ship with 6L6's except for a couple of exceptions (only 1 I know of).

Source: I bought one new from the first run and befriended several other owners. I have seen Peter comment on it a few times. The 2011 blueface was a limited run and basically just introduced the (minor) 2011+ circuit changes.

I can confirm this: el34 (bht?) in my '11 blueface!

In case you want to do the 2-amps thingy for Tool covers you should also consider combining a FL and a RL Diezel cab - this should bring you significantly closer to sweet Adam tones with just one amp.

Good to know,
I am just about to be running to oversized mesa 4x12's with these 2 heads.
I will then grab myself a HBE mod amp soon and that should do it!
You have a 11 blue do ya? Send me a pm if you wanna work a trade :)

Apologies for my "misdirect" on mentioning 6L6s in the reissued bluefaces. I thought they were intending to ship with 6L6s, but due to the change up (at that time) to BHT tubes from Ruby, they probably ended up going that route.

Now, if I am NOT mistaken, the original blueface was indeed a 6L6 amp. So I'm guessing - as mentioned - a second VH4 loaded with 6L6s may assist. But hey, an HBE + VH4 will be candy. FWIW, I specifically bought the Lehle S-Go-S to run both my Bogner 20thA Blue Channel with my VH4 Ch.3 It was really good. But not as good as my Ch.3 Hagen wit the 20thA Blue
