My Mesa 2x12 just does not sound as good as my Bogner 4x12

Obviously I will reserve proper judgement until I get my Einstein by the end of the week, however, with a Roadster, it just doesn't sound as good. It sounds smaller - which I guess is a given - but not just in terms of physical size, in terms of tone too. It's also not anywhere near as bouncy feeling, or as sweet sounding.

It might be different with my Einstein but I'm kinda disappointed so far. It's a great cab, and what puzzles me is, Andy Timmons gets nothing but sweet, fat, musical tone, and he uses them.

I mean, the Bogner is brighter but it also oddly sounds "fatter" in the sense that the notes seem to carry more weight. The Mesa seems to be like listening with almost like a filter or something over the speakers. Does it sound like it's not broken in or do I just not love it?

I like Mesa and Bogner 2x12's, and I think they both sound great, but they both pale in comparison with a good 4x12 to my ears. I've owned both, but when compared back to back, there's a difference. IMHO.

I think most people would prefer a Bogner cab over a Mesa given the chance to compare them.

Dump it, life's too short for gear you don't like.

I most likely will. I actually wanted to like the Mesa more. I mean, it's smaller, more portable, etc, but it just does not sound as good to me :aww:

I guess the Einstein will confirm it, but we'll see.

Mic em up and record them, let the mic help decide which one sounds best. Specially if you are used to a 4x12, going to a 2x12 may take some getting used to.

A couple of points...You cannot compare a 2x12 to a 4x12 no matter what brand you are talking about.............Period. Ive tried it many times and a 2x12 always sounds thin when compared to a 2x12 regardless of the brand stamped on the front.

The only exception to the rule is if the 2x12 is ported or oversized. Ported cabs ir o/s cabs were designed to sound fatter IMHO.

As far as Andy Timmons is concerned, the last time I saw him, he was using 4 2x12 hooked up together and that will change the tone as well.

If you want a fair comparison get two regular boogie 2x12's and hook them up together and then put them up against the bogner 4 x12 ;)

Oh yeah, I totally understand there's gonna be a difference in size, but the overall tone aswell, it's just, I dunno. I almost can't put it into words... There is just something about the Bogner cab to my ears.

Oh definietly for sure. That is the reason why Ive avoided 2x12's for years until someone came out with a ported 2x12 cab. For lack of a better description regular 2x12's always made my amps sound glassy....really tough to put in words but I can hear a difference in tone bigtime.

I need to get rid of my Messa 2x12 as well and get a Bogner cab, just been too lazy to do so

No 2x12 will sound like a 4x12 but the Mesa Recto (in my opinion) is much closer than other 2x12's including the Bogner 2x12.

Just my ,02

My Port City Waves 2x12 is probably the best sounding 2x12 i have played, and i have owned the OS Bogner 2x12. Although, the Old Style metal grill Boogie is a great cab, i think i like that cab better than the Bogner 2x12 as well. But the Bogner does sound nice as well.

i originally had a mesa 2x12 recto..sold it....got the 4x12..i am very interested in buying another recto 2x12...so i will be looking for one in the rig classifieds then!...if someone has one in the new england region i would like to talk!

thanx
