How does walnut sound?

Walnut is a generic name which does not really mean anything, this name covers a multitude of varieties of the same generic wood family, thus giving us many hundreds of differing stiffness to weight ratios within the same family name group.

Here are a few examples of woods falling beneath the umbrella of the one generic term ‘Walnut’:

– Franquette Walnut,
– Claro Walnut,
– Bostian Walnut,
- Bastogne Walnut,
- Grafted Walnut,
– Argentine Walnut,
– Brazilian Walnut,
– California Walnut,
– Hinds Walnut,
– Nuevo Leon Walnut,
– West Indies Walnut,
– Arizona Walnut,
– Texas Walnut (also known as Little Walnut),
– Mexican Walnut,
– Andean Walnut,
– Juglans nigra L. (also known as Black Walnut),
– Peruvian Walnut,
– Juglans soratensis Manning,
– Guatemalan Walnut,
– Venezuela Walnut,
– Japanese Walnut

All these different species share a completely different stiffness to weight ratio therfore they all sound completely different acoustically and this also applies to 'Mahogany', 'Maple', 'Ebony' etc. which are all generic names...
