For the first time EVER, I have a tube related issue with my fiddy one fiddy. It has no volume and just sounds like complete ass. I'm taking her to the shop for a full tube change...

I also have an excuse now to have the bias mod installed. :D Yay to me

while id say it might and most possibly is a tube problem, have you checked the FX loop jacks? they get dirty and cause all kinds of hell with the tone, including lost volume. i know, i had that problem! no volume at one time, then it had volume but no bass...cleaned the jacks and it was good again.

but it can never hurt to get new tubes either

+1

That happens to almost every 5150.

Haven't checked that, but thanks for the suggestion! That actually happened to my old Ampeg VH-140C.

But, I'm bringing it to the tech tomorrow, so I'll let him deal with it. :D

You guys are geniuses...

Well, that and I just didn't think of it before. I did the ghetto jack cleaning dealie with inserting and removing a cable and my volume is back. Woot!

I still think I'm gonna bring it for the bias mod, maybe I'll hold off on tubes for a minute though.

no problem man  i only recently had this problem after owning my 5150 for 11 years and many, many gigs. as mega said, its common on 5150s...some sooner rather than later. i was advised that replacing the jacks is the best option, but for a temporary fix cleaning them does the trick!

i need to get mine worked on...couple new pots, new tubes and a bias job possibly, and new FX loop jacks.

The bias mod is cool. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it's definitely noticeable. And yeah, the 5150 loop sucks.

Cool...yeah the volume just dropped again so I'm gonna have that all checked out.

Thanks for the suggestions dudes.
