I have had my eye out for one of these for a while now.
It's a bitch to find one that hasn't been modified and at a decent price.

I finally came across a good deal!
She's loaded with 6550s
I need to pick up an attenuator because its to damn loud with the volumes up.
I need to decide between a 4 ohm THD hotplate and a 16 ohm Rivera rock crusher.

I have heard the rock crusher is better, but that's 16ohms.
I have also heard running 4 ohms sounds better so I was going to go for the THD hotplate for that reason.

Any help would be great.

I use to have a 76 1987 sl and it sounded really nice. I currently own a bone stock 75 sl with 6550 as well. It is pretty bright but once cranked up it fills out nicely. I run it with a ho attenuator and it sounds great. I was gonna have it converted to el34 but now with the attenuator I can crank it and kind of like the 6550's. This 75 actually came in its original box, it was sitting as spare in a florid studio.

I had a 76 in the 80's .... One of the better amps I have owned.

I was going to switch over to EL34's, I am going to stay with 6550's until I grab an attenuator. I cranked it just to make sure she sounded amazing but I could only do that for 5 minuets before my head was hurting.
I need 4 Vintage 30's for the Marshall cab too, the g12-t75's aren't my cup of tea.

Thats crazy, the original box?

Yeah, in the original box. Sad part is that ups lost it during shipping and it was found months later in Michigan instead of nj, but it eventually arrived. I have an old 4x12 with g1275's and with the amp cranked through the attenuator it sounds pretty nice. My 75 is really bright so vintage 30's wouldn't be my first choice.

Cool, I wont rule out the g12t75's just yet...
Thats crazy how it ended up in Michigan :gethim:
Cool that it arrived eventually.

I am trying to decide between the THD Hotplate and the rivera rock crusher.

So are we going to hope that you blend this with the VH4 for some more sick Tool covers?

I am going to mix them, it's gonna be a pain in the ass with only one mic and a mono interface.
I will just record twice and pan them in stereo

Awesome amp!!!!

The Rivera is 8/16 Ohm switchable.

I on the opposite heard amps would sound better on 16 Ohm. But I think it's all a pile of BS.
The Rivera sounds worlds apart better than the HotPlate!

congrats =0 they are indeed freaaakking loud

re the attenuator, if it was me i'd look for one that has variable ohmage, be it spending some more, more flexible in the long run should you get other amps/cabs etc..

Buy a Bad Cat Unleash(not the Leash) and be happy!

It has two channels, 8ohm and comes with a serial loop!

Can't use 8ohms

JUST CRANK IT!!!
THATS WHAT I DO AND I CAN'T TELL ANYTHING HAS CHANGED IN HEARING AT ALL!!!

MAN I WISH MY EARS WOULD STOP BLEEEDDDINGGG!

YEAH I AGREE JOIN THE "JUST CRANK IT THE F UP" CLUB

I could crank it, but I'd loose hearing with this thing!
What? I can't make out what your saying?

Different amps react to ohm changes differently .... but with most you get more highs & lows and a faster attack with 4 oHms. Also with 16 you can get a little more squish with feel. With some amps it is very obvious - other you might not hear or feel any real difference.

Does the impedance selector not have an 8ohm option? I just picked up an Unleash and you can hook up any 4, 8, or 16 ohm cab to it OR 2 different ohm cabs at the same time..in my case a 425B cab(16) and 2551AV (8)..plus a loop and 2nd boostable channel..as long as you run the 8ohm out from the amp into the BadCat..

The amp has 8 Ohms, the cab does not have 8 ohms in mono only stereo
