I picked up this Diamond from a dear, dear brother of mine. You may know him as Mailman1971. We have had this bromance going on for many years now, growing stronger everyday.
He really hooked me up on this one. It's mint and has the red LED installed at the factory. Most of you know how much I like silly lights.
Anyway, this amp has 5881 power tubes which to my understanding is in the 6L6 family. Maybe someone could elaborate on this tube. I had a Soldano Hot Rod 50+ that had them and I liked em. Diamond advertises this amp as British enspired and slightly on the vintage side. I was apprehensive about this description but let me tell you this amp gets down right modern and mean to my ears. I owned a Nitrox when they first came out and really liked that amp but I owned a Soldano Aveneger at the time and they were almost indectical in tone. GAS hit and I sold it off, as usual.
I was excited to try another Diamond out.
I put a noisegate in the loop and allows me to use the FX return on the front panel as a master volume. Other than the gate I am straight into the amp. Used a '16 Gibson V loaded with Fishman Moderns. The cab is a KSR with Celestion Redbacks. This amp is very clear and has more mids than I have ever had in an amp. Tons of bottom end and more than enough gain on tap. I'm digging this tone for sure. It has made a home in my stable already. Played it for a few hours yesterday and I feel it is a keeper. Nothing has dethroned the KSR Gemini but this hangs nicely.
Here is a clip of it. My playing has been uninspired as of late. I will apoligize in advance.
Lemme know what you guys think of the amp.
