Got this bad boy in the mail yesterday from RT user and all-round good guy Walnuts. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to plug it in just yet because my work schedule is pretty crazy this summer. I'll hopefully get to run it through its paces by the end of the week...the wait is killing me! The photos are big, so I'll just link to the imgur album.

It's got the raw/smooth function. Anybody familiar with the Bones? please chime in and give me some advice on your favourite set up/settings/cab and speaker pairings/etc.

:)

Mine also has the extra switch above the treble knob, but no the raw/smooth switch.
It comes stock with an EL34 6L6 combo, that's what I would try first for power tubes; people also like an EL34 and 6550 combo. Haven't really played mine recently, so I can't help you with speakers/cabs, but I think the VHT/Fryette FatBottom was one of Mike's favorite before he switched to Randall.
Mike also told me you can easily use only 2 tubes, by either pulling a pair or removing the fuses, then cutting impedence by half. He also sent me his preamp tube preferences:

"I like the Tungsol reissues for V9, V8 and V5
Then Chinese for the Cathode Follower V7 and either Chinese or NOS 12at7 for V6."

Of course, V9 would be V1 for most amps, closer to the input (see manual on website for diagram)

Props for Cube without Lorenzo rollin' in a benzo

Thanks for the info! Right now I'm using Traynor 412 with Celestion G12T-75's but I'm worried that they might be a little too muddy, so I'm thinking about finding a V30 loaded 212 because I hear the Bones likes V30s.

Yeah you can't really go wrong with V30s... at worst they'll just sound OK

Congrats on that Bones! I'd play the shit outta that love box.

yeah man, what's been said...i'd play the fuck outta that amp....one of my "must have" amps.

congrats!!!

Put switch on raw and don't look back.. Awesome amp, congrats!!
Yeah def V30's! I remember the x pattern pretty good as well and I actually prefered a rear loaded cab because the amp was already so tight to begin with. Straight up, tight as a gnats ass metal though a VHT fatbottom with V30's is hard to beat

I use v30s with g12h30 in a 412. Absolutely love that combo! The raw switch is cool but not a deal breaker, amp gets silky smooth with it off but its good to have!!! Love mine and still puts a smile on my face when playing it!! Congrats on the amp!

Thanks! Finally had a chance to really open it up for the first time last night and I really could not get a bad sound out of it. That said, I'm in love with the M gain stage...plenty of grit on its own, sounds great boosted, and it cleans up really well with the guitar's volume. Still trying to get a handle on some of the unmarked "extras" on the front though.

If your extra switch over the treble knob is the same as mine, here it is:

"The toggle next to the treble is for the voicing H position only. When it is in that mode, the extra toggle shapes the gain, 3 different ways. Center is flat gain and the lowest gain setting, to the left is more gain with even freq, to the right is the highest gain with a bump in the upper mids."

Don't know what your extra knob to the right of your master is though, but Mike is probably the nicest guy in the world, so just email him and he'll tell you (if you haven't figured it out yet).

I hate you. I was going to buy this thing but you snatched up a few hours before me. :gethim:

Congrats! :D

Also, that extra knob is a second master.

All this is good to know! Thanks man. Does anyone know what the deal is with the Bones footswitch? Mine has the input on the back for one, but I didn't think the gain stages were foot switchable.

It's was actually for an RJM mini amp gizmo to switch threw the gain stages, extra master and FX loop
