I don't know how Dave did it, but he did it. This little EL84 20 watt amp sounds like a ripping EL34 pissed off 100 watt machine....at a manageable volume (but gets LOUD). Big, round low end....fat mids, bell-like top end and the gain knob is usable from 1-10. Really impressed.

How much low end can it push? I've never heard an EL84 amp push decent air. Can it do Zep to GNR to Alice in Chains, and maybe Deftones with or without a boost?

I played a Mesa .22+ through a 4x12 cab live and it pushed a lot of air...enough to do up to Deftones.

It has an astonishing amount of low end. I mean, seriously head scratching stuff. I have no idea how he did it. Through a closed back 2x12 or 4x12 it has plenty of thump.

Here's a quick clip. One of my recording monitors just fried, so I did this in mono. Mix may not be stellar.

I'll get some better clips posted when the new monitors show up this week.

Nice clip doin the heavy side.
I played a newer one with the 3-way gain switch & a simple clean mod, liked it more than the mini shirley.
Waiting for the RUNT to hear how it compares.

Yes, my old PV Classic 30 was EL-84 and had ridiculous volume capability as well, I honestly don't even believe that amp is 30W. EL-84s get way too much hate for not being EL-34s. There have been a huge number of incredible EL-84 amps; if the amp is designed for it from the ground up there is no reason they can't be used to great effect.

That was bad ass!

Congrats on your new amp. Smokes.

Thanks guys!

I too am pretty curios about the Runt. Seems like a lot of bang for the buck.
