Bought a Fuchs ODS SLX tonight - not a lot of time with it so far, but Dumbley goodness abounds.

And yes, I'm going to kemper profile the shit out of it. :D

Profiling it right now - have 20 so far, haven't done the OD channel yet. This thing is blues in a box.

I dunno, it does something my other amps don't do as well. Kinda like my trainwreck clone has it's own thing going on. I am getting some cool profiles though! :D

is this amp the most dumble-esque you've owned/played to date?

and what exactly does it take to profile an amp?

how long/what do you need/how do you get best results?

sounds like you really like the kemper!

Hey Pat!

I'm not a Dumble expert by any means, but this smokes the Brown Sound 44 watt ODS I had a few years ago. This thing just sounds really big and bad. Reminds me of a super good Fender amp with a drive channel that doesn't make me think Marshall. It has it's own thing going on which I like. This is a recent (2012) mod, so it has the Scott Lerner 'SLX' mods. I'm now trying to find the best cab for it, through my '73 Marshall it is pretty sweet.

Profile an amp, all you need is a mic and a Kemper. I setup four to six microphones at a time and set each mic how I want it and then try different combinations of mics or individual mics through a mixer to get different tones. once I find something save-worthy, I click 'profile' on the kemper and it saves it. I always put the amp I'm profiling in another room, so I can monitor with the Kemper and just hear the miked sound. This probably makes the biggest difference because if you can hear it off a mic, the kemper will pretty much capture it.

You can also put EQs or compression inline and it 'bakes' it into the profile. This is how I did my VH clips - I used ozone to get an eq match and ran the mics through that before they hit the kemper. Usually I don't put anything inline because I want to catch the real amps as well as I can without any extra stuff.

It's like miking an amp in the studio, sometimes it's quicker/easier than other times to get the tone you want.

Kemper freaking rules, had it since Feb 2012 and I'm still loving it. By far the longest honeymoon period I've had with any gear.Only bad thing is that there are some crappy profiles out there, whatever you put in it is what you get out of it. Some people try a few stock profiles and hate it... load a Kemper with some badass profiles and you have a badass preamp ;)
