It all started with a Facebook market listing for this.
An Orange Rockerverb Mk1 100 watter WITH a PPC 4x12 cab. It must be one of the early ones as the wattage listed is 120 watts, but it's loaded with V30's. The listing does say that the reverb does not work. No big deal I'm handy with a soldering iron and know how to troubleshoot some things. Get it home, first test is check tubes. They are good. Next, I plug in another reverb pan from another amp, bingo reverb works. Order a new pan for $30 and a week later we have a 100% operational half stack!!
My goal initially was to flip the head and keep the cab. The Rockerverb is a great-sounding amp, I want stuff that's higher gain right now. The cab is fantastic sounding and was what I was after. Flip the head for $1500's and a free cab!
Well me being me, I'm looking at the marketplace again, and an interesting ad pops up. Dude is looking to trade his half-stack for something else. I send him a message and let him know I have something that is the complete opposite of what he has and if he's interested. Dude says sure, I'll come by and give it a test drive, he's never played a Rockerverb. It's a few days before our schedules line up. but he's more than welcome to come by and test it out.
He comes over and plays it for a few minutes and is impressed, but caught a little off guard as it's not what he was expecting. It sounds nothing like what he has heard on YouTube. He's an admitted Marshall fan. He brought his Les Paul and played a bunch of classic rock style licks through it. This amp is made for him. He wants the think about it as he has another amp that he feels covers the same ground. I tell him to take your time although I leave for work out of town tomorrow, if you don't want to deal It's cool. Well, he gets about 10 min down the road, calls, and says he wants to do the deal, the amp fits him better than the one he's trading.
I tell him cool, let's do this.
So for $1000 I ended up with.....
What I consider one of my holy grail amps!!! A dam near mint Bogner Urschel and matching Uber Cab. This amp was made for me, that gain channel is so thick and the cab has one hell of a thump that I love playing my 8 strings through. Its like getting hit in the chest with a sledge hammer. I even love my single coil strat through this thing. It's just me.
Unfortunately, my wife was really looking forward to getting at least $1000 back in the bank account. I said that you and the kids don't have to get me anything for Christmas and laid my patented "Aren't I cute and you love me so much that you let me get whatever I want at the store" look on her. While this one will be staying, I told her my Peavy Ultra Plus with 5150 cab might have to go, and she said to wait and see. You don't have to do anything right now.
God I married a good woman.
