Hey guys, check this out. I'm waiting for my recto's return from boogie this week and was needing a cabinet. I am kinda strapped for $ right now so I was just gonna get a small 1x12 or 2x12 cab. Been looking on craigslist and guitar center's used section only to come up with dead ends. Twice now, someone has bought what I've wanted before I could do so. But this morning I looked on CL and someone was selling a Peavey Ranger 2x12 combo for $50. He says it powers up, but will not produce sound.
I bought it from him, carried it inside and proceeded to do an inspection. Tubes look good, everything on the outside looks good, pull the chassis and....a fuse is blown. 30 minutes later I pop a new fuse in and it sounds great! I'm not sure WHY it blew a fuse in the first place, so that will be something I'm looking out for. But for $50 I got an all tube (loaded with groove tubes) combo, supposedly based on a Twin, 2 channels clean and lead, AND I can still use it as a cabinet for my recto =)
Anyone familiar with these?? I can't seem to find much info online, but everything sounds good about them. It's not very pretty, but it sounds great. Cleans stay CLEEEEAN even with high output pickups. Very chimey and thick. The lead channel has a bunch of extra options (boost, mid shift, etc) but it sounds better without them. A really cool jangly crunch tone. Not modern heavy sounds, but good enough for 80s/90s rock.
