Hell, put a boost or two in front. You might like it that way as much as a mod. Then again, I heard that other Friedman Marshall you have....congrats on the amp!

Keep it stock...
As I can recall you have some amps with the "nodded Marshall thing"...
It can be a nice chance to try some overdrives in the front...
So many different flavours...

Reza don't do that! A 2203 RI with a TS808 in front is more than awesome!

It is cool trying different boosts thru an 800, but if its a reissue, why not mod it to what you want.?

friedman mod vs a ts808, LOL now that is funny. For sure Mod it....stop the boost!!!

To be fair a great sounding marshall with a boost will hold its own anyday. I have one 2204 that will never get touched and just crushes with any kind of boost.

Absolutely. Some of the best hard rock and metal tones ever recorded were boosted stock Marshalls.

I emailed Dave about doing a mod to one of my Marshalls. His quote was $600. That's just insane.

Yeah! Not sure why someone would question? A modded Marshall CAN take you places boosts won't, but I've had plenty modded Marshalls and a couple good boosts get you very close IMO. :dunno: But I would feel good about doing it to a reissue vs a clean vintage 800. Either way great amp no matter what happens.

Are you saying its too much? Fortin's Jose is 800? The SIR #39 mod is 800, depending on what Dave does for 600 that's not bad...

I didn't price out others, but that just sounds like you're paying way more for the name than for the parts and labor. I can have Lowell Hunt do any mod I want and he's 15 min. away for a tiny fraction of that. I just saw a Youtube video of a Friedman-modded Marshall I like and thought I'd ask him how much to do that to mine.

Just like anything else, you're paying for the individual's time, experience and expertise. Not to mention I'd bet a Freidman-modded Marshall is far more likely to hold value or even be worth more if you decide to sell in the future than would be a Lowell Hunt modded Marshall. No doubt Lowell does good work but I doubt he's getting the volume of requests as someone like Friedman is. If Friedman was offering mods for just $150-$250 he would be overwhelmed with requests and the wait times would be insane.

i agree that boosts CAN sound good... but if i can get there without it, i much prefer that route. purely subjective info also, but in my opinion a boost in front takes away from the mojo of the amp. not trying to spark a boost vs no boost debate, as it is a personal preference. I am sure you guys have gotten great sounds by using boosts.

Definitely, if you can get an amp to sound great by itself more power to you. But if you need a little more, I say try a couple boost pedals. Might take you where you need to go a lot cheaper than a mod. Mods do kill though, no doubt...still want to try a Cameron Jose some day!

And modding an amp doesn't?  ;)
