This personally for me settles it... I'm not a fan of the 2010 Multi-twat rectos as much as I thought I would be...

I know people say the differnces are next to none but...

I say this because I have played them a couple of times last summer (and with super high hopes). I brought by best "recto match up" guitar and my fav boost, etc. to local stores and was left feeling the amp was abit stiffer & kind of cold in a way that made it feel less saturated to my ears... After leaving the store I rember going to my recoding studio and playing my 3 channel 2005 triple recto that I had at the time and being much more stoked by what I was hearing...

I even recently played one at GC about two months ago and was going to buy it but I left with a JVM410 instead...

It's not that I think the 2010 sounds bad or anything, I just like the earlier 3 channel models a bit better for the one and only channel I use and care about for the most part.

This 2008 dual I just got amp sounds nice and warm on the orange channel and boosted with EMGs and it has the perfect amount of sag...not too tight or too loose. Combined with a front loaded Uber kab I'm totaly digging it...!

Again I only use the orange channel with a boost & EMG's... I don't care much at all for the red channel, although I will rock it on ocassion.

I dunno what it is about the 2010's... o'well to each his own I guess...

Also, IMO This is the single most inportant thing you can do to your recto is dump the stock tubes...

I did it before i even turned the amp on for the first time...

Replace the stock tubes with SOVTEK WXT'+s... (I had a fresh matched quad the EH versions lying around)

The Fortune cookie 6l6's and even Winged "C''s don't do it for me in rectos...

The Fortune cookies just sound fizzy on the high end with a too much bottom and ZERO soul in the mids...

Winged C's sounded better than Chineese tubes but were kinda just plain and boring to my ears with no personality...

I do not know why but the sovtek WXT+'s are like MAGIC in rectos for my ears... They used to come stock in them for a while too as Mesa 430's.

I have tried alot of tubes and these have been the best sounding for me... I know alot of cork sniffers will say thoese tubes kinda suck but they but I like them way better than any other tubes I have tried so far...

Anyway cool amp, bummer the Mesa 2010 "Retorn" Multi-watt Recto's didn't do it for me on the gain channels as the clean is supposed to be from the Lonestar amp and really killer! The multiwatt feature seems pretty cool, never had any complaints about the FX loop which is supposed to be better to in the 2010"s...

Congrats man.

Thanks... I will say that the 2010's might be more to my liking if I changed out the tubes in one... I'm sure it would make a differnce as I really do not dig the Mesa stock 420 tubes...

I think it's the preamp tubes. 2008 was when they changed from EHX 12AX7s to JJ ECC83s due to a drop in quality at New Sensor that cased their tubes to start failing in the cathode follower positions. JJs are typically darker and have less gain than other tubes, which some people like because it makes a Recto sound a little tamer and smoother. Myself, I like the older EHX as it lights a fire under the amp's ass. Brighter and more harmonically complex... some would say more fizz, but that can be dealt with.

Hmm, I have the 2010 reborn recto and think it sounds way better than the 2008 I had. YMMV

And there you have it... tone is just subjective I guess.

The last two owners of that amp didn't have it very long though...

Anyway, I'll buy it from you when and if you ever want to sell it to see if I can shake my off my "2010 monkey" by changing the tubes around and doing some more in depth side by side comparisions... Maybe afterwards I could be a formerly Forlon and newly Re-born & Ass-torn over the 2010 model...!

I'm right there with you with those Sovtek/EH 6L6s. Rectos sound GREAT with them.

Congrats on the amp!

I agree that i didnt have it long, i think i got it sometime in january and i traded a prs and some cash for the recto and a mark iv and the main reason i did it was so i could get the mark iv and honestly i figured i would try the new version of the dual rect and if i didnt like it i would sell it a week later considering i didnt like my last rectos very much and pretty much hated them, but week after week for almost 2 months i fell inlove with the amp and i didnt wanna sell it, i wished i could afford to keep it but i couldnt and i recently bought a herbert that i love and i have a esp kh2 in greenburst on order and i needed the cash to put towards the esp, my dealer says the guitar will arrive in march or april and i didnt wanna have to try and save up for a while to get it, so i sold the dual rect and now i have the cash in hand for when my guitar arrives. i really did like the amp and i had a hard time choosing between selling it or my nitro actually.

I'm thinking the Nitro is more win than the recto right? Mine is due anyday!

Thats hard to say, the recto has a different feel and vibe and the mids have a growl you can only get in a recto. I like the nitro better but alot of people like their rectos and swear by them. Me and you dont like the same amps it seems, so its hard for me to recommend anything anymore. Im still a huge uberschall fan,Xtc, vht ul, quickrod,cobra,herbert,roadster,5153, and reborn rectos and dont think u was a fan of those amps. So u cant really go by me.

I think you like the jvm,6505, 2008 dual rect, savage and engl se from what i remember.

The stock tubes have alot to due with the blah experiance in the new rectos. Dont get me wrong, Id rather pick up an older 3ch for a grand less if it were me. But the new features are cool. When I had my stiletto I really liked the rectifier tracking and selectable multi-watt function on it. But for me all the hype and "its soo much better" talk about the 2010 really ruined the amp for me when I actually played one.

Anyway, congrats on the NRD! Killer amp. Everyone should have a recto in their collection.

The ability to switch between vintage/tube rectification and modern/diode rectification is enough right for me right there.

I also like the ability to run the clean on 50w/tube. It might seem a bit odd to run the cleans on a lower power than your high gain but it helps cure the cleans of some of the stiffness most high powered amps have and gives them a bit more bounce.

Don't forget that you bought my AVENGER!!!

I thought that amp kicked ASS!

lol...

My fave amps that have stuck around with me the longest and that I have played out with have been

Marshall JMP 2203
Marshall JMP-1 Preamp (with mesa, vht and marshall poweramps)
Savage 120
Powerball
Engl SE El34
5150 II, 6505+
Mesa Mark III
ANY AND ALL Mesa Dual and Triple Rectos, Racktifers, Tremoberb, 2 channels, 3 channels, etc.
Marshall JVM 410 & 210H
Soldano Avenger ( I liked this alot more more than my SLO I think?)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some VERY popular amps I dumped fast because I just could not mesh with them were (there was alot more but ya...)

Bogner Uber (All the Rev's, incl. The Twin Jet) - over priced and some what fuzzy (not so much the twin jet though, very diff uber comaped to the rest)
Framus Cobra - Very fuzztastic!
Fireball, Blackmore - menh...
XTC - WTF??????????
TSL & DSL's - kinda weak I thought
51503 - great sounding amp but no personality I thought
Orange Rocker Verb -boring as hell - might have been the cab though...
All and All VHT heads - Stiff as a viagra factory
Diezel (could not talk myself into actually buying one and I still dont know why...???)

I mean they are all great amps even though I didn't like them as much as others...everyone has thier thang I guess...

lol...

I owned a 2010 Dual Rec for a month or two, I was waiting for a new-in-box Recto to ship from Mesa and was going to judge the amp based on that and a full tube swap because the one that I was using was the floor model at Guitar Center. Unfortunately I wanted to sever ties with Guitar Center before I got the new-in-box Recto, but in that time I swapped the V1 tube with a Tung Sol and the power tubes with SED =C=s. Even after that, there was something that I didn't like about it. It didn't sound like the Rectifiers that I've heard on record for years and years, it just didn't have that snarl and relaxed mids that I hear. It seemed that Mesa jacked the circuit in order to make it more 'nice' sounding overall. The stock-except-for-V1 preamp tubes could have had something to do with it. I wish I had more time to goof around with it, and I think if I ever wanted to own a Recto again (which I do) I would probably grab one of the older 3-chan models. The thing that impressed me most about the 2010 Recto was the green channel pushed mode, good god did that sound good especially with some volume and a Tubescreamer in front. I played the Beatles for hours using that mode. Fun stuff, glad you like it and congrats on the NAD!

Ya, the green channel is suppoed to be badass for alot of stuff like that... I really was close to buying a new triple 2010 at GC too... I might buy a used 2010 just to have arounf for a while and do up cloase comparisions side by side.... I love my 1998 Triple and 1999 Dual 2 channel rectos, never selling those evar... I'm loving the 3 channel dual I just bought... I only ever really had 3 channel triples in the past for any length of time... think I like the 3 channel dual better than my 3 channel triples so far...

The new 2010 Dual Rectifier is GREAT! I have owned many Rectifiers and none got me going like the new Reborn Rectos. Just killer, killer amps. Clean, Pushed, Raw and Vintage modes and amazing!
