So I got back in the Atma club a month or so ago along with a Bogner 112CPS. I decided I'd try something different and got and got an Alnico cream to go in the cab. Then on new years eve whilst everyone was too drunk to bid I got the deal of a lifetime on an Atma combo. the previous owner swap the G12H30 for a Mesa Black Shadow branded CL-80 which I didn't really care for. So I decided to try the Cream in the combo first and loaded it up last night. Throw me in with Reza, the Alnico cream is the cats pajamas. I've really liked the atma since I got my first one a couple years ago but it also always sounded a little stale or more appropriately it sounded like a small amp with my bogner V30 loaded or creamback loaded cabs, even with the Cl80 this combo came with. This speaker brings this amp to life. Now the head is for sale and I need to figure out what to do with my 112... Happy camper here. Anyone with an Atma combo or a head and 112 I recommend getting this speaker.
I play both high and low gain and everything in between. This is my basement rig used for practicing and playing around when the fam is asleep and I have time to myself. The versatility of this amp puts it head and shoulders above any other lunchbox/low wattage amp I've ever tried. My typical jamming list includes anything from SRV - Little wingish cleans to AIC and Mastodon style riffage. I'm not really into playing the super tight metal and not sure the Atma is suited for that kind of stuff but with an EQ or the right drive pedal I think it could pull it off. I've heard a lot of people say Bogners sound like they have a blanket on them. The Atma tone is awesome either way but the blanket analogy I thought was fitting a bit, the alnico cream took the blanket off and really opened the mids up, great speaker...
On another note, I picked up a Y cable this weekend and ran the combo along with a Bogner OS212 loaded with a creamback 65 and 75. I need to play around a bit more, there is a definite addition of low end thump with the OS212 added which is awesome but I I'm not sure if I like it as much as the Alnico Cream on its own. I'm going to swap in a V30 to the OS212 and try it with each creamback to see which combination has the best tone. While the creamback 65 and 75 together is a great sound I still have never quite dug it as much as my Bogner 412s w v30s. 1st world problems I guess..
