I was wondering when you would chime in!!! I'm just using the EH tubes james sent with the amp. Running it thru a Mesa Traditional 4 x 12 with V30s. Cool amp indeed...
Haha. Yeah between work and caring for our 10 month old boy, I barely get the time to post these days.

For my tastes the Gryphon gets along perfectly with V30's or similar speakers.
I'm using a 2x12 with a mix of WGS Veteran 30 and WGS British Lead.
Sounds really balanced and smooth yet still aggressive with the Gryphon.

PM me when you feel like swapping tubes.
I've tried quite a few EL34 and 12AX7 brands with my Gryphon, so I might be able to give you some helpful info.

Another thing you probably noticed is the Gryphon really brings out the tonal character of your guitar/pickups.
What guitar/pickup combos have you used so far?

I'm just using my Custom ESP with EMGs atm.

I didn't like actives with my Gryphon.
I tried EMG's and Blackouts and it just sounded cold and sterile to my ears.
That might just be a personal preference thing, but for what it's worth I've liked actives through other amps.
I really feel that the Gryphon sounds its best with passives.

Some bridge passives that sound especially great with the Gryphon are the Duncan Distortion, Duncan Screamin Demon, Duncan Custom, Dimarzio Evo, BKP Nailbomb and BKP Painkiller.
My personal favorite bridge is the Suhr Adlrich. Ballsy grind for rhythm work and yet it sings like nothing else for leads (I'm usually a "neck-position-kinda-guy" for leadwork).

Oh man that would be so awesome!
Do it and make clips/vids of everything for reference.
Then post the results.
