Been digging on these amps for a while I finally moved some old gear I wasn't using to get them. Both amps are killer. The QR is a 2006, I had an older one a few years back at one of my ampfests and loved playing it. I got a new QR recently and it just didn't have that thing I liked about the one at the fest, this one has it. Loving 3rd Gear in OD1. Wow!!!

The 6505+ just jumps. The midrange range has a bit of that 6l6/transistor preamp section plasticness that just pushes air and is a different sound then the Marshall/AC30 thing. I love that grind of the Peavey. Can't wait to start makin music with them. I split in the morning to produce a record in Amsterdam but as soon as I get back they are getting used.

After all the amps I have owned and tried, the 6505+ is easily in the top five of ultimate metal amps.

for the money the 6505+ is hard to beat for that kick in the face metal grind. boost that sucker!

Nine to see you come back to some off the shelf gear! Saw your recent tracking with a JMP and I agree, the basics just work! Been looking for a cheap 6505 myself just for kicks.

Congrats! I have an old 3 pre QR that I've had since '05. Just killer amps that have their own special mojo going on. I also picked up a 5150 on the cheap. Both amps do enough for what I do...and need

I might add that the QR tracks like a mother f'er in the studio :)

nice one James, are you running EL34s or KT88s in the Splawn ?

i'll be interested to hear how it works with your cabs

Clever acqusitions. I looks forward to hearing you grind through them.
I loved trying out the Splawn at volume. One of the best Brit circuits I've heard and gets my vote over amps doing the same thing for way more $.
I assumed the newer the better, as the clean channel was updated. Is this one running less preamp tubes than the newer amps I wonder?
