311splawndude asked me to do a NAD, I figured most everyone here was over on the TGP where we have quite a splawn thread going , so i didn't bother here.
But here she is, fully loaded with an additional mod I asked Scott to do for me. When Scott adds the solo boost option to the SS he uses one of the speaker outs, I love running 2 cabs when ever possible because I use 2X12's. so here's a shot of the front, New/old, and mid cut options

Here's the back both speaker outs with the solo boost and the 4/8/16 ohm switch.

I wanted a smaller version of my JVM so I I spec'd the look the same

I also just picked up a Splawn 2x12 with 25 watt small blocks

OMG.... i love the looks of those smaller heads (and, that is NOT what she said :D )

you have any clips of this beauty?!

HNAD!!

Congrats. A mini 50w with all of the switches is on my list. Do you know if this is the same circuit as a Competition?

directly from Scott Ssplawn
"
As for the difference in amp models. I basically only have two amp circuits, the Quickrod and the Nitro. Everything else is a scaled version of those.
The Prostock is 100 watt single channel OD section of the QR
The Competition is 50 watt single channel OD section of the QR
The Super Sport came later which is the most popular features of the QR in the smallest size. It has no solo boost or 3rd gear and the EQ is shared between the two channels. The controls are laid out like a SLO but the circuit is still a Splawn and not a Soldano.
The Streetrod is the QR in a combo.
The QR and Prostock 100 watt are only available in the Full size box
The QR 50 can come in the mid size and the full size
The SS and the Comp can come in all three box size"

but seeing mine you can get the solo boost on the Supersport and you can keep both speaker outs, all you have to do is ask (and pay$$$ a little more)
the only thing I'm missing on mine is gear 3

I don't tend to post clips on the internet, I can never get them to sound anywhere near as good as they sound in the room. I need to try one of those IPhone Mic interfaces and give it a go. I used to record stuff in Reaper and post it up all the time , years ago , but I lost interest.
Sounds like a Splawn the Mojotone cab has Scumback M75/J75 pair in it, I might swap them into the splawn cab this weekend to see how they sound in there but so far I have complaints about the Smallblocks

HNSSD

Great looking amp. How would compare to the JVM? I was OK with the JVM205 on green or maybe orange but just cannot seem to gel with that amp for whatever reason. Maybe I just don't like the way it compresses? The Splawn as you've figured out is much more open. You have to dig in a bit. It doesn't play itself if you know what I mean. Cool features. I've considered going that route myself. Have not heard of the 25w Small Blocks. My Small Blocks are 55w.

Thanks for posting  I don't hang out at TGP.

the Splawn sounds a bit bigger. thicker and more open than my JVM did. I modded my JVM with a negative feedback pot , gain reduction and mid shift mods. Helped tremendously, the guy I sold it to owns a stock 410 and he couldn't believe how quiet mine was and how less compressed it was.
I really had no issues with my JVM besides the size weight factor. the JVM is a bit smoother sounding compared to the Splawn and actually did not cut through with my band like the Splawn does. I lived on od1 green and Orange 90% of the time I used it. I think the Splawn does it better.
When I started looking for smaller heads the first one I tried was the 20 matt Marshall jcm800 studio classic. I loved it but no clean and honestly a little thin sounding. So I went on a search for a better version of that.
Here is where I ended up. I tried the Bogner 3534, the Landry LS30, the Friedman Runt 50 and the Suhr PT-15.
My other guitarist sold his Shiva and now has the Suhr. I think he questioned his decision at last rehearsal.
None of them had the "bark" the Splawn does except for the Studio classic.
For what I was looking for it checked off all of the boxes and I got a surprisingly lush clean as well, and the solo boost without losing a speaker out.

Awesome dude. What was the lead time from start to finish? Scott is amazing to deal with.

I have a SS on the way home from the shop right now. It's been there for months. I got it in a trade and it sounded like dogshit when I got it. We replaced all of the tubes and fixed a few other minor things and according to my tech and Scott, the amp is functioning as it should. My tech said it sounds thin as hell with the treble turned past 10 o'clock. Are you experiencing anything like that? My amp will be here in a couple of hours, I'll report back. Your SS looks killer btw!

No I'm not at all, this amp never really sounds "thin", it's definitely thinner on gear one than 2 but thin is not a term I'd ever use to describe it
right now (really depends which cab I'm using) I'm running
presence at 11:00
bass at 11:0
Mids 12:00
treble : 12:30
with the Mojotone cab I turn the presence and treble both up a tiny bit.
and I have an MXR 10 band in the loop slight cutting 125k and boosting 2k
this sounded interesting

These little mini Splawns are sounding pretty awesome in all the clips that I have heard.

I had Scott Splawn modify my 1979 Marshall 2203 with one of his custom circuit boards( just prior to his first Quickrod model) way back in 2003, the amp sounds as great as it did the day I unpacked it from Splawn 17 years ago, the amp was having some issues that no tech could defintively track down so I had him replace the PT with a modern Marshall SLP dagnall PT and a Mercury Magnetics Output transformer and my amp is running SED6550's. The amp has never had a single issue since he rebuilt and modded it, I feel it is one of the best modded Marshall tones out there for a reasonable price.

FWIW I purchased one of his first Quickrod 100 watt amps after receiving my Marshall, while it sounded good it did not compare to my the Splawn Marshall for some reason, it may have just been sentimentality but I ended up selling the Quickrod.

Congrats on the new amp, I don't think you will regret it.

Reporting back. I just put the SS through its paces. The eq in the loop was a necessity. It sounds great! Congrats on getting a killer amp!

LOL the only thing mini is the headshell , its a standard size chassis. I had to move my SS that's in the mini headshell today so my wife could do some cleaning and I was saying this thing is a heavy SOB :giggle:
