Splawn Supercomp!

Pretty cool amp , I'm trying to narrow down the best bias / tube combo. Sounds good through Celestion CL80's , very tight amp in the sense of the way it tracks your right hand, The eq controls are a little different from what i'm used to, and the solo boost mode is different, meaning when you engage the solo boost master, it adds to the regular master so both masters work and or on at the same time, I've never seen it layed out that way, pretty cool. The different modes are interesting, but so far i like it with them off.

Its going to match my trusty Marshall "GUN" cab.... its beat to shit, but sounds killer, has a birch ply back , Nile from solid cables hooked it up with some bad ass speaker harness's inside , and h30 / cl80 x pattern celestions... sleeper!

The amp is def made nice and looks cool to.... clips to come!

sweet man ... happy NAD. i have been wanting to try some splawn stuff myself lately

Nice amp man! I'd like to give one of those a whirl :)

How's that mode switch on the Super Comp? 1st light off=normal, 1st light on=less gain? That's how my older Splawn Competition is(pre gears) and I like it a lot. I love the way my Nitro sounds but would rather have a single channel amp with a lower gain feature like that. Don't really need a clean channel. I was loving my Nitro(and Comp) with my Marshall 1960AV(I also tried G12T75s and G12K100s) but I have another cab with 2 Splawn SBs on top and two V30s on bottom(V30s are a bit louder) and it is absolutely killer. Need to get a couple more of them thar puppies. What tubes you running now? I've got Winged C El34 and JJ pres and love it. Eq is a bit odd. I can't seem to get a bad sound out of it but I love the way I have it set now. Res 9, pres noon, bass 10, mid noon-1, treb 3 and gain about 11. Volume at 9 for "bedroom" levels. :D Running emg 81s. :worship:

 Congrats on the amp. Is it 50 or 100 watts?
I got your PM.
Let me know what you think after running this amp at rehearsal.

bubba - i dont know what the switches do exactly yet, one seems to make the amp a little muddier , the other seems to add gain...the amp sounds clearest to me with everything off and the bass and resonance low...

It came loaded with the tungsol el34b and tungsol pre's but i put in ruby 12ax7 ac5's in the preamp which seemed to give the amp a little more of the bite i wanted, and running the ruby el34bstr in the power section... not sure but they may be a little to bass heavy and loose for the nitro... hard to say yet, may try the winged C's or maybe even winged C kt88....

Hollywood- thanks man, its a 50 watter! w/ the loop master volume, its in excellent shape! i'll know more on wed after rehearsal how she can hang!

So if the amp sounds clear with everything off....Well does that mean a guy could just get the Nitro as the Nitro does not have the mode switching?
Yes the Nitro has the clean channel.
But then again, the clean channel could be set up with a pedal or two of choice to create another option other than clean though...
What do ya think about that idea Nick ?

Nice amp Nick  Looks really cool....I can't say enough about my new Splawn QR  Glad your liking it...Can't wait to hear the clips of this monster

Congrats!

I've been wanting a KT88 Nitro and a Street Rod head lately.

Congrats on the SC ! I had a couple of those and loved them . I have a couple quik clips on the Splawn site . If I remember correctly "mode on" added some midrange & gain , which I preffered .
Great amps.

seems like mode on the amp gets more bass and a little gain, but its not clear , seems like it would be cool for like a tele or strat for leads to fatten it up, not so much for rhythm playing, and it seems like od1/od2 adds gain and a little hair and oomph... but i enjoy it with everything off the most lol

It will be for sale in a week

Compared to what you have, the Splawn won't hold its own. I had a Nitro for about a week last year. I think there is too much stuff on it getting in the way, between input and output. Just my opinion though and the Comp or QR may be somewhat different. You do need a good practice amp to haul around though to help preserve the good stuff :D
