So I traded a pedal for this little bad boy:
It's a Randall RVC. It's supposedly a Guitar Center exclusive. Funny one of these ended up here in Mexico. AFAIK, It's basically a Randall Diavlo RD5C but without tolex and with no emulated output. Class A, 2x12AX7's, 1x6V6, one channel.
My POD XT died a couple of days ago and I needed to find something usable at bedroom levels. I have a Krank Rev Jr. and a Peavey XXX but... well... even the Krank is too loud for me in my bedroom. So I found this just at the right time!
So far it's great! Plugged it's speaker output straight into my Marshall cab first (has Vintage 30's and EVH's). KILLER! It's a wee-bit lean in the low-end department compared to my Krank and Peavey, but that's to be expected. After all, it's only 5 watts and runs on a single 6V6. It can get loud, but not offensively loud like both the Krank and Peavey.
Then I just ran it using the stock speaker... err.... It's alright for bedroom practice for now, I guess. It's a little squelchy, but maybe I could upgrade it eventually.
I also swapped out the Ruby 6V6 it came with for a JJ 6V6S. More headroom, bigger lows, and cleaner highs. Maybe a touch louder? Sounds better, but I wonder if I need to adjust the bias for this or it is cathode-biased like my Krank? Hehe... The manual makes no mention of this. I'm also dying to try a Tung Sol 5881 and maybe a Sovtek 5881 I have lying around, but not sure if this will stress the tiny output transformer too much?
Either way. Recommended!
