So i've finally joined the Green board ranks

She's number 157!
I was a little concerned when she arrived, V4 didn't light up and in turn had no clean channel. I took it out of the headshell had a look under and thought one of the solder joints looked a little funny. Anyway I have no electrical knowledge and put her back together and boom, V4 lights up! Clean works and we're one big happy family
The infamous gain taper on the distorted channel doesn't seem like an issue at all to me. When Reinhold was designing the Uber he had a fire-breathing metal amp in mind. I find it quickly saturates through the low-mid gain areas and then allows some really close fine tuning of the high gain. That said it's still possible to get a lower-mid gain tone (provided you have a gentle touch of course
)
In all honestly, i'm surprised how similar it sounds already to my Krank Rev+. The bass on the Uber is ever so deeper, but they both rumble! The uber has the slight edge in low-mids and has less fizz though, definitely a good thing
Has Chinese pre's and JJ EL34 power's, i'm still waiting for my new tubes to arrive.
I was surprised how tight it was when I started playing it. Was definitely expecting it to be a lot looser and saggier. Definitely keeps up for metal without a boost and passive pups. I'm about to install an EMG JH set though
When i'm home alone I typically dial in some completely impractical settings that blow heads off:
Master: Dimed
Channel: 8-9 o'clock
Presence: 3-4 o'clock
Treble: 10 o'clock
Mids: noon
Bass: 1:30-2 o'clock
Gain: 10 o'clock
It's so ridiculously bass heavy it's not even practical, but hey, it's fun!
Anyone know some settings for a really chunky low-mid? ala Lasse Lammert's tone on his emg test video
I'm about to send for off to get a Mercury Power Transformer installed. I've been using a step-down up until now. I'll let you all know if there's any change in tone. Cheers guys!
