Yesterday I scored a -new out of the box- VHT Pittbull CL50 head (with EQ) for a really fair price. Apparently the distributor changed and Fryette ditched a few dealers over here so I got a good discount on this VHT. One of the last batch of this model perhaps (before the name change, at least it was the last one at this dealer)?

This is one classy amp for sure. I really like the "dry" high gain sound of this amp, but it is capable of much more I guess. Just got it for a few hours so I'm still tweaking and trying out a lot of settings to get the tone I really want. The manual is very minimal and is not much helpful. If anyone has some suggestions to get a good metal tone, please share them.

Yeh the Pittbulls have a nice Dry tight Rhythm sound to them..

Mid police will come get me if I get involved in settings..

Don't get me started on the mid Nazis man, I've noticed it's mostly hardcore Marshall guys who are like that....IMO :D They are also the guys I've noticed who don't like to put the presence up over 3.

Haha. :) I'm not hardcore anything. I'm sixteen and play a 5150 and it fucks me off a little when people scoop their mids loads. But those VHTs are sweet, great amps. :)

I hope to own an UL or a CL when I'm older.. though I guess it will have to be a Fryette now. I also really want a split screen Volkswaken microbus. :P Weird no?

LOL!
My mids are on 7-8 and my presence is at 5 and I'm what most would consider a hardcore Marshall guy.

Thx man, gonna try it. I noticed that the EQ is very sensitive.

Definitely not gonna berate anyone over it but I love :inlove: my mids and find them absolutely crucial to articulation and grind when it comes to the midrange predominant electric guitar. YMMV but scooped sound tend to disappear in the mix.

Not worth arguing over though ;)

i prefer to play with scooped mids when im tinkering around in my room because it sounds more "metal" to my ears, but in a band setting they go from 2 up to 5-7 depending on the band and the environment, mid-scooped tone does get lost in the mix pretty easily. i really want to try one of these pitbulls. i don't know why people say they are "dry", i cant imagine a "wet" tone, so i really don't get it.

IMO the Dry VS Wet thing is about saturation.

some amps with the gain set high get very saturated and thick in the sound, almost a little blurry. The VHT amps remain clear as a bell and dry as in high gain without any blurring saturation at all.

"Dry" in the unsaturated, uncompressed sense. I can play my Pittbull with the gain maxed out and it will definitely sound distorted, but not in the same way as say, a 6505 (my old amp).

interesting, i'd like to hear it. Whenever i play a 5150 i usually keep the gain just past noon, that gets me where i want to be. too bad theres no way im dropping a grand on a used one just to try it out...

ill talk one of my friends into buying one.

  I almost had you pegged Vlad, with your low presence and high mids. You've got a good reason to be a marshall guy, your Marshall smokes  My mid/are almost the opposite of yours, mids are around 4 and presence is usually at 7-8 except for my MarkIII where it's at 10. I think it depends on how mid heavy the amp is though and whether it's in a band setting or not, there's no general rule for me, I usually dial by ear.
