This is a long overdue NAD thread. I was looking for jobs today with no success, I got depressed and just gave up for today and decided to write this up and play my new amp. It is a 1975 Marshall 100 watt JMP its basically stock aside from the newer F&T filter caps, Bias supply caps, few resistors that im guessing were out of spec (nothing major), and a larmar master. This thing rips, and I can’t believe how gainy it is on its own. I haven’t been able to really open her up, but even at moderate volume it just sounds great. I do not think its bright at all! I was hoping that this was one of the models that had .68uf presence cap and it does!! It has a really nice midrange that to me isn’t shrill and im playing with everything at ten except bass which is more or less at zero so it stays tight. I am finding that I much prefer it un-jumpered. I have a 2x12 cab that I think I want to use with this head, but I will need higher powered speakers im thinking scumback bm75 or bm75-ld.


I attached a clip please forgive the crap playing, and all the flubs. I am not great to begin with, and then when I know I’m being recorded my hands turn to cinder blocks haha. The quality is shit, but I think it can kinda give you an idea of what it sounds like. The feedback in the beginning is from my iphone. I am boosting the amp with OD9 and using delay out front into splawn small blocks. Guitar is a charvel san dimas.

I wont mod it, i have modded marshall tones already covered in another amp. I bought this one because it was stock and i intended to keep it that way (aside from the master).
 
Ahhhhhh JMP tone.... Now that is something sweet. Nice amp and happy NAD.

Agreed, everyone should try playing through one at some point...it's really something playing through an old four input Marshall. They just roar. :thumbsup:
 
I owned two 75 jmp's but they were 50 watters. Both still had their 6550's and all stock, and both were very bright amps. I still have one and am thinking of having it converted to el34's and maybe a ppimv. I liked the way your 100 watter sounds though, curious as to how it sounds straight in with no pedals ?
 
the ppimv works with this circuit imo. I put one in my 2204 clone and took it right out. I do think when you are playing at low volumes it darkens the amp. It may help you if you feel that your amp is too bright as it make it darker the more you use it. I much prefer el34's!!!!
 
These are great amps and getting harder to find unmolested. Mine are both 50 watters and one has an MV and one (four holer) I installed a removable no added hole ppimv and they both sound killer. They also both have 6550's.

How did you like the el34's vs 6550's?

I'm thinking of switching my jmp to el34's and still on the fence.

you will need to mod the amp for the change to el34 its not as simple as a straight tube swap

Do it. IMO, Marshall's sound best with EL34's. Have a tech do it and he'll need to change some resistors, but it's easy.

I had a 78 jmp with kt88's in the past, and i do think marshalls just sound better with el34s.
 
That sounds freakin killer. I know you said you weren't going to mod it, but there's absolutely no reason to touch that one. Maybe change to EL34's, but that sounds just like a Marshall should.
