Peavey Vypyr 60. $315 Used

2 - 6L6 Sovteks
1 - JJ 12AX7
Analog amp models
Digital effects
Line In, USB, Headphones

Most of you are probably familiar with this series. The tubes really do help this amp. I've played them all and this one has some dynamics and mojo you can get behind. Sounds great imo for $315. Hell even at $450 new I'd say at least check them out. Won't compete with an Ax obviously or the real deal but it met my requirements. If you can get past my noobish playing you can get a feel for some of the tones possible.

Twin Clean - 6505 Dirty

Deluxe Reverb

Brit ...........RATT

Plexi

XXX - JSX (comparison)

Dual Rec

Diezel

*I did one of the Bad Cat model too but it didn't come out as good. I've got some more pics I can post as well. I know there are a couple of guys on here that like this amp too. If you have any questions or anything let me know.
:rawk:

i own the same amplifier. for late night jamming and learning tunes you cant beat it for the price. and you are right - there is mojo to be had, but it still sounds like a modeler. does not have the girth/depth of a real analog amplifier. but for late night jamming who cares at these prices

i would sell mine for $360, they are quite expensive new yes.

happy NAD

^ yeah, I remember you being one of the Vypyr owners. Thanks for posting.

I don't think $450 is expensive for what you get.

Anyone else?

Played the 30W SS model yesterday--was digging the tones coming out of it, but noticed that you usually have to put the Tube Screamer pedal on top of anything to get it to sound good. Some of the comments are negative--is everyone saying this wouldn't be good for club gigs? Reason I ask is I'm having noise problems with my Hughes & Kettner Switchblade 100C right now so it's about to go into the shop and I'm looking for a smaller all-in-one. Don't want to have to use the HAZE 40 or DSL 401 plus a rack or pedal board.

Thoughts?

i think on mine i always have the Z boost on, or the ZW boost, or something of that sort. the only time i dont have any boosts on are with the cleans which the 60W tubed model has some damn good clean tones.

best thing i ever did for mine was change out that preamp tube for something more to my liking.

i wouldnt recommend it for clubs or gigs. too thin sounding. late night jamming and at home practicing is all i would consider this amplifier for - anything else and i would upgrade to a 2x12 combo and a guitar head for playing out. plus the sanpra pedal does not come with the amplifier and in order to gig with it you would need it, which adds another 75-100 to the price. so by this time you would be better off just getting a 2x12 and calling it a day.

yeah, not sure I'd gig with one but it would make a worthy back up. They have been known to arbitrarily turn off. Not sure about the 30w version but the 60w tube version would be miles better imo. If you liked the 30 then you would def like the 60. I like the ZW Boost better myself as well, too much noise with the TS effect engaged. PS: I don't gig.

$250 - $350 for a used Vypyr 60 is the way to go.

i can give you my settings if you would like, let me know

I've been gigging with the 30 for bout 2 years. Never had a problem, although I know some people have, with lockups. It is computer based, so..... I'm going to put a swamp thang in mine as soon as we finish recording. Got a couple overdubs left & don't want to change anything, yet.

^ interesting.

Do you mic up?
What kind of music do you play?
Do you use the Sampera pedal?
Why a Swamp Thang? I thought the speakers they use are great, neutral sounding, etc...perfect for a modeler.

Cheers.

^^ will do

Great bang for the buck and the best modeling amp I have played (never tried the axe or the expensive ones) but to me sounds way better than the line6\bogner deal. Agreed not 100% like a real amp but I have a friend that gigs with it and it sounds great in a band mix.

Anyone tried the small 30 watts head? Can be bought for around 190$ at many places. Looks like a fun lil' head to carry around.

Do you mic up? - sometimes, depends on size of event. Played this evening with a generator powering us. I was kinda worried, but worked out well.

What kind of music do you play? - Christian rock, kinda classic rock style

Do you use the Sampera pedal? - I have the Sanpera 1, I don't do a lot of changing, dirty & clean, mostly

Why a Swamp Thang? I thought the speakers they use are great, neutral sounding, etc...perfect for a modeler. - cause I have one, also have a Texas Heat, Just going to try them to see what happens

Share some clips with us if you like. - When our cd comes out, I'll share. I don't have a way to do it at home.
Cheers.

^^ will do

^^ yeah, I'd really like to try the Vypyr 120 tube version on my 212 cab. the 60 combo is an open back but is surprisingly punchy.

^ I've heard that the 'all' solid state versions are better for metal due to a tighter sound. They the Vypyr 60 when you get a chance. I played the Vypyr 15 again the other day and was really shocked at the great tones for $99.
