So I traded my BE100 for a blacked out Mesa Multi Watt Dual Rectifier. I’ve played recs back in the 90s but I gotta say…I’m really impressed! The clean channel is great and I can get some nice crunch tones out of channel 2 and great high gain out of 3. The only thing that would make it better is a spongy/bold switch for each channel.

I was pretty nervous going into this trade as I wasn’t sure I was going to love a rec but after struggling with the BE100 for years I’m quite happy with this trade. Now I just have to get a MIDI box to control it with my PBC6X!

I have the spongey/bold switch on my Stiletto and agree it’s a nice option to have. What was it about the BE that wasn’t working for you?

Hard to beat for versatility.

I'm not sure going up and down on voltage on-the-fly between channels is a good idea, although nowhere in the manual does it say not to flip the switch between bold and spongy with the amp in "action".

It might well be fine, but I've always just picked my voltage before powering-up the amp.

I had the amp for 10 years and I guess I just got tired of it. Not much in the bottom end and it was picky about everything. Speaks, guitars, he’ll even power condition. I may regret it in the future but I’m really loving this recto. It’s a lot more versatile than the earlier gens.

I recently picked up a Rectoverb 25 combo as a grab-n-go, and I can't believe how much easier it is to dial in a decent sound compared to the Dual Recto I had back in the late 90's (or maybe it was early 2000's).

Ah man, I picked up a MW Recto recently too and this is one of the very first things I said. On the older rectos I used to say I wished I could set diodes for some channels and tube rectifier for another, and the MW does let me do that, so I wanted that one step further with the bold/spongy. My guess is that it's more complicated than a few switches to really pull off

I hear the Multi-Watts are great amps. I thought the Stiletto would scratch the Mesa itch, but it feels like there’s still a full fat rectifier shaped gap on the shelf….

Sometimes you have to scratch the itch twice. Sometimes thrice!

Enjoy!

First, I have no business with a Mesa, lol.

I plugged into one of those Rectoverb 25 combos when I was also trying out the Cali Tweed and the Filmore combos.
I couldn't unplug quick enough from the Recto combo.

I did bring home the Cali...

Great looking amp. I should probably give the Recto multi watt a test drive at some point as many have reported some improvements. I've owned three rectos over the years. I kinda liked them, but did love them. I always feel like I'm fighting the amp in terms of response to my playing in one way or another, and was constantly trying to balance the eq...Never could get it quite right.

Congrats!

They are pretty similar to a real deal Rev F.....the MWs.
