Which of these pickups do you prefer in a Les Paul, and why?

I fucking love the nailbomb. I haven't tried the 2nd degree blackbelt but the nailbomb is one of my all time favorite pickups.

What kind of tones are you shooting for?

EDIT: I really like the jb/59 combo in maho guitars.

I wasn't too fussed on the bridge Nailbomb in any of my LPs. I freaking loved the neck though. One of the best neck pickups for high gain I've ever heard. Never tried a 2nd Degree Blackbelt, so I can't compare, but I'd definitely go for a Nailbomb neck, and look around for a better bridge pickup.

I want my bridge pickup to be thick, fat and great for hard rock - has to clean up when i roll the volume back though. And, if it can cop a convincing VH vibe, that'd be cool too. I have a Suhr Aldrich in there now, which I like. I just feel like a change.

The Aldrich is hard to beat in an LP. It does everything you described.

Yeah, I agree - I like it a lot. I also really loved my BBQ Bucker in there too. Just feel like a change every 5 years or so. Plus, I can always switch back if I don't like it better.

I have used a Nailbomb in a Paul . I like the Nailbomb allot and have owned four of them over time but much prefer the Rebell Yell in a Les Paul. I have one for sale if you are interested. Also the Cold Sweat neck is my favorite neck pickup BK winds.

How do the NB and RY differ in sound and feel in a Paul? I've heard the RY is just an under wound NB...
Are your experiences with the NB with an alnico or ceramic magnet?

Alnico in the Nailbomb. From what I can remember The Rebel Yell in the Paul sounds a little more balanced. The low end is a little softer which is a good thing in a Les Paul. Cannot remember enough about the feel. The RY is considered a brighter pickup but it sits perfect in the LP to me. I tried Nailbomb, Miracle Man, Crawlers,Mules, and VHII in a Les Paul, and the Rebel Yell won.

Thanks for that!

Surprised you've never tried the Holy Diver?
I was torn between the 3... NB, RY and HD... I want to try them all in my Lester

I've heard the RL described as a lower output Aldrich

I tried a Holy Diver in the past in another strat type guitar and did not love it.

Based on what you are aiming for, the 2nd degree blackbelt for sure. It is essentially a hotter PAF and the frequencies are well balanced. It is much more open-sounding than the nailbomb.... I think the RY would be a good choice too though.

I'm like you... I like to swap the PUs out of my lespaul every once in a while. My PU rotation is currently is 2ndDeg BB, detroiter and angeldust and I love them all!

I would pass on the nailbomb then, i think its too tight and grindy for that.
