Hey!

I have booked my tickets to come and see Nashville in November (I know... it's quite a while off...), and would very much appreciate some insight in to what to do, where to listen to some good music, etc.

Basically, I am there to soak it all in, and hopefully meet some good people along the way.

13th till the 24th.

Hope to meet some of my fellow RT'ers.

Hey man! Welcome in advance to one of the best and friendliest cities in the states. Hmmmm.... Where to begin... Well, let's start with live music. What types of stuff do you like? Despite the country music connotation, you can easily find all genres here on a daily basis. I'd say check out the Exit In, Mercy Lounge, and 12th & Porter for starters. There's lots of other great places, so just listing a couple til you shed some light on musical tastes.

Food - check out Whiskey Kitchen for sure, as well as Tin Angel and maybe Tayst. There are tons and tons of great places including Flyte, 1808 Grille, and so many others. Where in town will you be staying? That'll help dictate good places close to you.

As for other things to do, well, there are plenty, though it looks like you're going to be visiting around the Thanksgiving holiday so that may mute some events/activities that would otherwise be available to you. That said, don't get me wrong, the city is alive with things to do even on holidays so there's always something fun to check out.

More info to come pending more detail about you & your visit.

On another note - I'm a long time member who reads/consumes each day, but rarely posts. However, I find it refreshing and really cool to see so many other Nashville based members! I think there might be enough for an amp get-together..... Just saying ;-)

Here are a few more live venues. The Rutledge (my fave), 3rd and Lindsley, The Basement and Hard Rock Cafe. A few more restaurants...Blackstone Brewery, Mafioso's, Sambuca (live music as well), area favorite Demo's...of course Broadway has alot of country flavored stuff with the legendary Tootsies nightclub. I'm a rocker and partied in there many times, fun place.

And yes I'm suprised there has never been an ampfest here as well.

I live about an hour up the road. I'm in Nashville very often. There is the Nashville Amp Expo in August and The NAMM Show in July. The Amp Expo was huge last year..and alot of fun. You would also enjoy BB Kings on Second St. It also has the coolest Guitar Center in the states..most people don't know that. As far as studio's go, Blackbird Studio is amazing and Wired World is Micheal Wageners.. There is more rock and blue's in Nashville then most people realize. Hopefully Oprymill Mall will be fully back open by then from the flood.. Thats been a long process. I think your gonna love it :)

I love most styles of music... And I would be lying if I said I didn't love country :D

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I am really excited about going.

Can't wait to check out some of these places.

Yeah, the Amp Expo is pretty cool, but I was referring more to a kind of amp-fest where maybe some brews could be involved :D .... and would also be a touch more informal. At any rate, there was mention of Guitar Center and I have to agree it's one of the best I've seen anywhere. Far more knowledgeable folks and greater assortment of gear to be found. Other music/gear stores would be:

- Rock Block http://rockblockguitars.net/
- Corner Music http://www.cornermusic.com
- World Music http://www.worldmusicnashville.com/

and there's a good Sam Ash in the Rivergate area of town.

Blackstone's Brewery was mentioned above and I concur it's a great place. A few other restaurants to consider would be Bosco's, Tavern, South Street (awesome bread pudding), and maybe Cantina Laredo. Also, if you check out Rock Block guitars be sure to have a bean roll and round of billiards next door at the venerable Gold Rush.

Great mention on the Gold Rush and the Bean Roll. Still frequent that place as well. Tomorrow night actuallly lol. Thing about the Gold Rush was back in the 90's...it, the Exit/Inn...the whole Elliston place was Nashville's version of The Strip in LA. You couldn't get in the Gold Rush and thats when they used the whole upstairs.

Rock Block definitely has the effects pedal selection...massive w/ boutique stuff as well as the standards. Say hi to Todd at Corner Music...still refuses to give up the mullet. And of course for all your vintage needs there is the legendary Gruhn guitars on Broadway. Unfortunately I can't afford another mortgage so tend to stay our of there lol.

Yep, I remember those days.... barely... ;)

The GoldRush upstairs was a haven for coke and all manner of ill shit. I still pop in from time to time myself. Exit In is still kicking pretty hard though, and the whole area still has a bit of a vibe. Nothing like back then of course, but still.

Yeah, I didn't even bother to mention Gruhn's as most folks want to maintain good cardiac health by not seeing the price tags on their stuff

I know this is a bit of a stupid question, as one could not possibly hope to answer it correctly... BUT:

I am in LA a week before that, and would you say I would have better luck finding a real nice acoustic (could be vintage) in LA or Nashville?

Probably more selection in LA by virtue of sheer size-of-city, but you'll find no dearth of selection here in Nashpit that's for sure..

There's alot to check out here. If you're still looking for an acoustic when you get here. You gotta check out http://artisanguitars.com

They have a nice selection of high end guitars.
