the fortin is a clear winner here,

much more articulate much quieter when cranked a bit more than my camera will allow and seems to be able to do a hell of lot more with the simple controls it does have

the fortin with it's pre amp shelving eqs (gains) also make the amp far more versatile and it's throaty mids and tight low end kick you in the balls, if you had a fetish for that this would be your amp, also bumps your chest, nice

i sadly have the fortin set conservatively and don't have the time or patience to mess around with either amp to give a more full gamut of what each can do

the mesa boogie mark iv is a motherfucker, i love it for different reasons,

it's not as quiet but has a nice higher mid growl that is bery nice, i like!

honestly what i dialed in for the mesa mark iv was my hoping to get it to sound similar if not spot on to the NATAS, which is well impossible i think

the mesa is cool in that it also has pre gain boosts and all sorts of options with it's push pull pots and such, the lead channel is quite awesome *duh?!

the mesa may not be the quietest amp out there, but is feature laden and very versatile, the NATAS is as well in it's own way

i guess if i had to make some sort of decision i'd still (OBVIOUSLY!!!) go with the NATAS, if finances were the issue the mesa is a f-in killer amp and i'd go for that, having both just makes it all pure winning

well i don't know what else can be said, hopefully the video speaks a little more than i can do in text, and i know at the end of the vid with the talking seems a bit redundant but whatever

any thoughts or questions are welcome, thanks

Both of those together sounds ridiculous. I actually kind of like the mark iv better with that 8 string...cuts a little nicer? If I was in tha room with you it might be a different story.

yes in the room sounds waay different, with the natas you feel it, the mesa sounds weaker in person, although i think i dialed something cool in with that ole mesa

thanks for the kind words

next time i do any vid comparing amps i'll watch the volumes so that the amps are almost at the same volume, and also make it fair by switching cabinets so as not to have any bias ya know?

anyways thanks

Cool to see a vid where you are having fun and not being all serious.

What did you have the pres and grind set to on the Natas. I run mine around 3:00 and 2:00 to get some serious cut involved.

The Natas has a slight more punch to it   Love the MK IV, owned one for 5 years.

Cool vid

@digital jams, i actually run the grind high as well, anywhere from 2-4 to completely dimed,

i think that if i do another vid comparing these two in particular i should spend a little more time with setting the NATAS, because in my ears it rawks better than any other amp i've heard/owned, but then again different strokes for different folks, i guess

thanks

:) Very cool ..... looks like fun....

I never thought of the IV as being noisy or heard others mention about this ?

Mine is near dead-quiet. Actually one of the least noisy tube heads I've played.

Nice video.

i just mean the mark iv is not near as quiet as the fortin, but yeah it's pretty quiet i can admit that

thansk

Here is a really short clip of a natas dialed in for a more thrashy uber cutting tone...

Regarding 8 strings, I have used my natas as a bass amp and it was stupid so 8 string guitars are nothing for that amp.

Wasent even close for me, the NATAS crushed the boogie, and laughed at it while doing so
More depth in the tone, more articulate, better mids and bottom. I do believe thats as close as an amp can get to a hydrogen bomb
Dam I want one of those........ or 4 of them...
great vid, I enjoyed your evaluation   ;)

That's the clip I was talking about in the other NATAS thread! LOVE that tone! It just cuts like no other and isn't over saturated. H30s, right?

Even though it's pretty short, I have to say that is about the best tone I've ever heard on a clip.

The Mark IV sounded like it had a nicer midrange, but the NATAS really had a punishingly tight low end and a lot less noise.

i'd have to agree with your sentiments, the i set the mids very differently though on the NATAS from the mark IV, the natas is easily capable of having the mark's higher mid snarl, but i tuned it differently so as to hear a more low end tightness and the lower mid growl or whatever, and yes the mark is quiet but not as near as quiet as the NATAS, bottom line even with the eq on the mark i can still get more different and better sounds out of the NATAS, it's amazingly versatile and out and out amazing, the mark is cool as well but takes much more time and energy to dial in just about anything, that sound in the vid took about idk a day and a half to really be happy with that tone, and then when i switched the mark into a different cabinet i would have had to dial it all over again, while the natas on the other hand does awesome in any situation, plus NATAS is SATAN spelled backwards, clear win!!

thanks

Yep, seems that the NATAS is just about the best amp for brutal, tight metal in existence. For now, anyway.

I would love to buy as many VTMs as I could, tie fortin down until he did everything he did to your amp and go to that mini ampshow next to NAMM and blow those suckers out for a grand a piece, your amp sounds awesome!
