Today I scored my 2nd 90's EVM12L loaded Mesa Thiele cab. (top one in the picture)
Serial no. is even close to my 1st one.

It sure thumps and I have to cut down bass on the GEQ of the mini Mark.

From all the good stories, I was even more on the hunt for an half-open MC90 version of this cab, but I'm not sure if many of those were released at the time this M/B logo was used. I figured, what the heck, a 2nd EVM can't hurt. ;-)

Score!!!

For years I had a living room "stack" that was
a Studio .22 combo sitting on top one of those.

Congrats! Loved the combination of the Thiele EVM and an open back with the EVM. Never tried two Thiele cabs.

Open back + EVM? Wouldn't that sound bland or something, given how the EVM is so linear and with open back, it no longer has the Thiele-thing going on?

If I do find an half-open MC90 version, I hope to snatch that up and then sell whatever provides the weakest combination.

Room size will dictate this a lot. I had mine in a smaller room so the
Thiele gave things forward punch while the open back helped to not
make everything sound so front firing and directional - since I had zero
room reverb working for me.

The Mesa Thiele is an excellent cabinet. I e been using one daily with my little modded JCA20. I went through a lot of different speakers and prefer the Celestion Redback the most.
How do the Redbacks compare to the stock MC90’s?

It’s really hard to describe. In a 1x12 you really hear the speaker, especially at lower volumes. I find the MC90/Lead 80 to sound good really pushed. I use the Thiele at lower volumes and so many speakers had either honk or were just crazy bright. I tried EV12L, Eminence MS-12, some new Eminence 200 watt speaker, Celestion 25’s, 30’s, 65’s 75’s, Lead 80’s, Egnator 80’s, MC90’s and V30’s. The redback sounded best. Just didn’t overpower any specific frequencies and has nice bottom end.

How would you compare the EVM12L to the MC90? I find that the EVM12L can be thick and quite middy, but not overly bright. I can crank treble and presence on a connected amp more than with others. Is the MC90 closer to a Classic Lead 80 or a G12K85 from Celestion? Classic Leads to me were nice, but brighter.

Tried the EVH 50W (6L6, v1) through the cabs... Massive! Normally I run the bass on the EVH's channels at 6 or 7, had to dial them back to 4.
