in contrast to the other thread, something i've been really contemplating lately...... i like a REALLY clear, clean neck sound in either clean or crunch amp settings....i've been using the alnico 2 pro (the old kind) in my lesters for almost 20 years, and im thinking that i need to try something new that doesn't get that borderline muddiness on the bass side of things, and has a sweeter, less biting top end

i haven't tried my one guitar with the 59 in the neck with my either of my amps, so that may be the ticket (it also has a custom in the bridge), but anyways:

pickups i've tried in the neck position:
tone zone
59 (going to give another shot)
alnico2 pro
paf pro
evolution
duncan distortion
ibz f something or other
gibson 496r and 500t (yep, tried it in neck)
JB

anyone, i kinda want those jeff beck neck lead sounds, that violin sustain, but a little more clearer and cleaner under power.....the BKP stormy monday seems like its close to what im looking for (but not the jb pickup).
anyone care to add?

I just put a BKP Rebel Yell in the neck of my AX. It has a Duncan Custom in the bridge, and the 2 match great. The RY is pretty clear and full, and has the output to match up well. The 59 just didn't hang well with the Custom IMO. The 59 didn't last long in my AX.

Actually, the Afwayu neck pickup is great! I was very surprised! Splits well too.

I like the Dimarzio Evolution Neck myself...but you say that youve tried that already...what dont you like about it?

I found that in a LP it stays tight, never gets muddy, grinds great, will match with any good high output bridge humbucker.

Who uses neck pickups in metal?  The real answer is whatever is stock because it will never get used anyways! :D

I have an Evolution neck and an Air Norton. Both are pretty good. I actually want to try a '59 because I have been moving towards Duncan bridge pickups (I actually want to try a Custom badly!)
