I need help deciding on a neck pickup to go in my two Charvel San Dimas Pro Mods.

The come stock with the 59' which i dont really like. Doesn't hold up very well with high gain and seems to lose clarity and definition as the gain increases.

I need something that will pair well with what i have in the bridge. One has Duncan Custom Custom and the other has a Dimarzio Super Distortion.

I would like to stick with either Dimarzio or Duncan, preferably Duncan as i can just drop that straight in.

I have considered a Air Norton/Liquifire or maybe PAF Pro, the Duncan website recomends a Pearly Gates to go with a Custom Custom.

I am wondering about the output of the Pearly Gates though.

Any thoughts...?

I have a Charvel Warren DeMartini so unfortunately I don't have a neck pickup. :) However, hopefully I can assist.

I had a Pearly Gates in a Les Paul I once owned and it sounded sweet. I think mine was in the bridge though. I had another Charvel years ago that had a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck and that seemed to work great. I have an EVH pickup in my EVH Special that I really like.

One thing based on what you are not liking about the '59 is that i would say to try and back the neck pickup a little farther away from the strings. You should get a little more clarity and articulation this way when playing with high gain. If that doesn't help, you could try a Duncan Jazz.

What the hell do you know about Charvels?

:D :D :D

Just kidding of course Chub. :)

I agree with Chubtone on this back the pickup off of the strings some,
It should really help with your note articulation.

Same here!! :2thumbsup: I like the Duncan 59 neck pickup, but if it does not work for you BKP or MCP makes some real killer neck pickups!!
