I'm a bit stuck on the neck wood I'd like to go with on the Suhr I'm planning to order.
First off, I'm planning on picking up a Modern 7 once they become available to order. Ed mentioned that they'll have a longer scale and I've seen John mention this on another forum too. Right now, I'm planning on a mahogany body and am torn between a mahogany/pau ferro neck/board, maple/maple neck/board, and pau ferro/pau ferro neck/board.
With the longer 27" scale, I'm concerned that the pau ferro or maple necks may lead to an overdose of brightness. Especially because I'm fairly certain I'm going to go with an EMG 60-7 in both the neck and bridge positions and that's a bright pickup. On the flip side, I don't want the mahogany neck being too dark when combined with the mahogany body.
So, does anyone have a solid pau ferro neck out there? How would you compare it to a maple neck and board? Also, I this is a bit more towards John or Ed or someone at Suhr, how well does a pau ferro neck/board match up with a mahogany body? Is it similar to the way a maple neck/board combines with mahogany?
