I've been boosting my amps FX loops with a Dano Fish and Chips for the past several years. It's a great pedal for the $$$ but built like a kids toy. Any thoughts on a reasonably priced/solidly built replacement?

Not many choices in the way of EQ pedals. Keep it simple and go with the MXR or Boss. The MXR is better but the 6 band. The 10 band breaks easily. I had two of them go South. The Boss is ok but the buffer is not as good as the MXR and it has more hiss. Not much rockett science to it Don't get caught up in the Empress para, etc. I owned them as well. Keep it simple is best.

I've had the MXR 10 band for a few years with no issues.

don't listen to gary.....

empress para-EQ is a large cut above the rest. but, it is a parametric that lets you dial in the frequency centers. way more tasty than fixed sliders. but, they aren't cheap. if a a dano has made you happy, probably an MXR would be your best bet. i like any parametric better though. but, that's just me and i don't know shit.

I've been using the old blue MXR EQ pedal and I like it alot better
Than the new MXR's. seems warmer, more natural.

BYOC has a graphic eq too. You can buy them per built. If you don't want to mess with it, I would just get an mxr 10 band. The mxr 10 band does need 18volts.

Also on the mxr 6 band, it doesn't have a level slider, which if you are using it as a solo boost, you should want.

Me, I am perfectly happy with my fish and chips eq. They aren't built great, but work well.

Problem with the 6 band is it has no output slider. So any frequencies you bump also adds volume which you might not want.

Empress para eq and vfe rocket eq are the best I've used in a pedal format.

Elevon Audio MXR 10 band Eq modified.

Cleanest, noise free eq.
If you need midi implementation, I can recommend the source audio programmable eq

The Source Audio looks really cool! I recently sold my MXR10-band and if I ever go back to an eq, that SA will be the one.

I have a 10 Band MXR and love it. I also have an old Furman PEQ3 it's a parametric eq, I like the parametric better because each band has it's own a bandwith control and you can widen or narrow the frequency you boost. If you can find a Boss GE 10 which I also have, it's also a good choice.

I was interested in that Source Audio pedal because of the midi, but I think it's a digital pedal, and I'm a bit weary of having my signal go through too many pedestrian A/D converters. It would be nice to have a midi controllable EQ though...

I've been doing some research on eq pedals and alot of great things have been said about the Fromel Shape. Hope it's true because I just bought one.

I sent you a PM. I have an MXR 10 band. If you're close enough, I don't feel like messing with shipping, you can come get it...FREE.

I have a Fromel para EQ. I run it in the loop for a single amp, run it in the effects send line to the wet amp in a wet dry rig to get a little difference in the wet tone.

Great pedal.

I'm with glip22 on this. I had an MXR 10 band that I had issues with. Can't go wrong with a boss GE-7.......if you don't mind going with a Boss, that is.

Thanks! Sent you a pm.

If you like the graphic EQ stick with it. But a parametric is great! Even a single band parametric can be much more useful than a 10-band graphic. That Empress EQ that was mentioned looks excellent! Haven't played through one, but the specs and layout look perfect.

IMO, the boss GE7 is a step up in reliability from the Danelectro fish and chips, but a step down in tone. A modified GE7 is a different story, I have read the GE7 is very good after a few tweaks.

As for the Empress Para EQ, that looks killer (like most of Empress effects) but is pricey at $250.
