I hadn't heard of the Redeemer before. Pretty cool stuff. I'll have to look into putting one in. Is it hard to do yourself? Doesn't seem like it.
It's very easy to install. They include a jack with it, and you just solder two wires and that's it! They even include heat shrink tubing to cover your conections. You will have to use a 9volt battery to power it. It's a very cool upgrade. Kind of like having all the benifits of active pickups but none of the drawbacks, and it can be paired with whatever pickups you choose. Plus, Sarge is a super cool guy so

.
what drawbacks are you referring to with other active systems?
I don't see their preamp being light years beyond or even much different than whats already out there. any preamp can be added to any pickup or guitar.
with EMG types the only advantage is the convenience of the self contained preamp. they will all sound slightly different but the benefits illustrated in that video is simply the change from high to low impedance negating any capacitance from the cable runs.
It might also be louder, not sure if its meant to be unity gain or not.
