80's thrash, to drop-D, chunky rhythms, to Gary Moore Blues, and classic Rock. A real, ALIVE lead tone is crucial as well. Something harmonically rich. It's asking alot for $700, but, I know it can be had.

The Carvin Legacy is on the radar, but I don't know if it can be as tight as I would like, with an EQ in the loop, and boost in front?? Can't TRY one!!

Another DSL, is what I think I need. I'd like to get a Laney VH100R, but they're out of my budget/price range. I've seen some Laney TT's pop up somewhat cheap, but can't try one of those, either..The GH50L's is another, (I've owned 3), and that's a SMOKIN amp, but I don't think it has the versatility.

The only other one that I think would do, is a 6505+, but, again, not sure of it's versatility..I've owned a 5150, but not a II/+.

HELP me out, guys. For what it's worth, I have an arsenal of pedals - EQ'S, OD's, Sonic Stomp, etc...Also have a stock-pile of preamp tubes, from JJ's, to Tungsols, to Mullard RI's, EH, GE, and others..

Mesa Mark III.....they can be found for about that price and cover what you mention.

if you dont need more than one channel, then the peavey vtm60 or vtm120 would suit you great and you can find them for $300 used all day

the low gain input is similar to a plexi and the hi gain input is like a jcm800 on steroids

only drawback is that theyre ugly as sin

They're not bad amps. They do sound like a JCM800, but it has no more versatility than the Laney GH50L, (and don't sound NEAR as good!). I'd go with another Laney, but I do want 2 useable channels/versatility.

Maybe another JSX? I've owned one of those, but I just sold a Triple XXX. They sound alot alike.

Gary Moore? Classic Rock? 700 bucks? Laney flavor?

Laney AOR 50. Great little 800 styled amps. owned one for a long time I regret getting rid of it. You might need a cap change if you get one but it's worth it they sound GREAT.

Boogie MKIII, Boogie DC-5, Boogie .50Cal+, Rivera Knucklehead ( but you'll need a boost for th lead channel)...

Rebel 30, I think it may be able to cover your needs and in your budget new without having to search the classifieds to find something within your budget. may need a pedal to help. But it is pretty harmonically rich for leads, great classic rock, great clean for pedal platform, and plenty of gain. With the tight switch, you can tighten up the low end to get rid of extra flubbiness

here was a quick clip I threw together using just the Rebel 30 head when I got it to test it out of sorts

+1 and any one of the 5150s

marshall 8100 or vs100 both are chunky and a 100 watt head can be found for under 200 bucks. id rather have one over a 6505

These amps have intrigued me. I've read some about them. Can you compare to a Classic 30?

I had one years ago. I was a newbie, back then, and used to 0 out the mids. Funny, I was listening to "Symbolic" yesterday, and thought "damn", Chucks tone is HUGE!

The 8100 is the first addition, no?

I can't really compare first hand to a classic 30, but just based off of clips. From what I have heard, I think the Rebel 30 is a step above. the Classic 30 I gather has a good clean and ok drive, but the rebel 30 has both a stellar clean AND drive channel, for most applications. Wattage control, from 30 all the way down to 1 watt individually set on each channel, as well as independant reverb per channel. I am really happy with this head for the most part.

If you want something maybe slightly more modern sounding, I would also look at the blackstar series. They are coming out with the venue, and you can scoop up the 100 watt head for about 799 I believe. I loved the HT-5, and would imagine the venue series is a step above. I find that the HT series has a tighter gain then the rebel 30, but yet still rich.

this was a quick clip I did when I got the blackstar HT-5. Great sounding little amp, but not enough watts in the end. Very good for rythm and leads

Not a bad price........

That might actually be the guy buying my Triple XXX!

I'm holding out for a Laney, or possibly a 6505+!

i dono it might just be me but i hate those marshall valvestate 8100's they sound like a harsh mess

i think they just have a really stiff horrible feel to them also

for a 700$ budget thers alot of peavey and oldschool mesa stuff out ther that will blow that 8100 out the water

Mark III. Trust me on this one, the best for what you said.

the xxx is way better then the any valve states but cost a lot more. i love the xxx's tone so sick. i just picked up a randall warhead full stack for 600. im pretty happy with that
