Old school Orange's have a particular sound. Very massive, yet with aggressive breakup. They also take fuzz boxes like champs and fold them over into their own sound, so it doesn't feel like you're playing a fuzz box through an amp... it's all one unit.
The trade off is that they're a little sluggish on the bottom end. Not saggy... just fat. It makes it hard to play faster, more aggressive styles on them yet has made them (and Matamp) staples in the doom and stoner communities.
It's why I ultimately switched back to a Recto. I'm more into sludgy guitars than doomy guitars, so I needed something that did the big riffs yet could keep up on the bottom end.
