Need help Identifying this Orange

It's a 90s OTR.

The three tone stack knobs on an original OD80/120 were larger. The re-issues had tiny little ones.

Also, that dude has re-located the sticker to cover the "OTR" graphic. On an OD80/120 the word "OVERDRIVE" is wide enough that it would stick out either side of that sticker.
 
That pic is from the band Death Breath (Sweden) in the studio and the sound they get on their ep and full length is pretty much knocking my socks off right now. Granted I've seen a few YT vids where they use Marshall and Engl on stage but when I listened to the record I even guessed Orange before I saw this pic.
 
Old school Orange's have a particular sound. Very massive, yet with aggressive breakup. They also take fuzz boxes like champs and fold them over into their own sound, so it doesn't feel like you're playing a fuzz box through an amp... it's all one unit.

The trade off is that they're a little sluggish on the bottom end. Not saggy... just fat. It makes it hard to play faster, more aggressive styles on them yet has made them (and Matamp) staples in the doom and stoner communities.

It's why I ultimately switched back to a Recto. I'm more into sludgy guitars than doomy guitars, so I needed something that did the big riffs yet could keep up on the bottom end.
 
What's funny is my #1 pick for a heavy amp right now (at least that sounds the best with my V) is a Mesa Roadster. This band Death Breath has a low tuned but actually pretty clean sound. Just enough dirt to be heavy, which may be why the orange holds together. It's like classic rock Death Metal. The sound when single low notes or chords just ring out is awesome.
 
Yeah... that's the vibe. It's like this thick wall of sound that rolls over everything in it's path... yet is much warmer and less piercing that what we've become accustomed to. That's the trade off... it's incredibly full bodied, but doesn't have the speed (punch) of a bright guitar tone. I think it's why Orange (and others) were left behind when the new Marshalls hit the scene.
 
I also understand they're popular with country acts because they can get destructively loud and stay clean.

I can't tell how you much I'm enjoying this band. Easily my favorite music to listen to right now. If you dig old school death metal and even older school black metal like Venom etc you will like it. Has the perfect thick and dirty sound but not lo-fi shit. It's like the anti-Andy Sneap recording....the Anti Sneap :lol: :LOL:

Even cooler, I emailed the band asking about the recording and what rigs they use and the guitar player/sometimes singer emailed me back with a detailed breakdown. This is a side project for them but they have a fan for life with me. It also proved that Nicke Andersson was the real creative force behind Entombed. It reminds me a lot of Wolverine Blues but more straight ahead DM arrangements with a cleaner guitar sound. Throw in some Autopsy and Nihilist as well.

It's been so long since I was excited about any new discovery so I'm pretty stoked right now.
 
After playing my V (500T) which sounded awesome through a Mesa Roadster at A440 but crap when tuned to C#, I'm going to stick with old Marshall. I did try a VHT 100Cl that had a thick warm, percussive sound but the JVM410H next to it outdid it with mids and cut even at C#. I had to have the gain on JVM Orange settings "barely on" to not be too much saturation. Way too much gain those amps....but did sound pretty good for a classic vibe on a low tuning with chug still in affect.
