Hey guys!
Got a gig on friday and I tried to change my tubes today....went straight to hell!!!
Followed the instructions on the website but when I tried to read the current I could´nt get the godamn mulimeter to stay on a value.
Then it stopped altogether!

What the F am I doing wrong!? Is it some kind of special mulitmeter I need to use? Because this one is made for reading mA.
Is there some special pin that needs to be used? Mine where like sharp pins but it didn´t seem like they were sticking.....am I making sense?

PLEEEEASE HELP!!! This needs to be done by tomorrow :aww:

Are you talking about regular probe ends, pointy suckers? If so that might be your problem, you need banana plugs, like the kind that go into the detachable leads on a multimeter but on both ends. Although if you could keep the probes in good contact they should work too, probably too hard to do because of needing a free hand to use the screw driver with. If it was going all over the place it sounds like that what was happening to you, contact not good because of wrong ends.

Later on,

Nick

Yeah that sounds like my problem! So I need cables with the same ends? If you understand my poor english?
Beacuse mine where pointy suckers and I couldn´t get them to read....

Did You blown the internal fuse of the MM ?

MM??

I don´t think any fuse has blown, because I tried the amp without biasing for a minute or two and it was working...

Ok!! No I don´t think so...I think it´s the first answere, that I didn´t get a good connection....
But more hints are appreciated!

Can you post a picture of your multimeter turned to the setting you are using?

The Fluke multimeter I used had mA settings for DC and AC, it took me a second to realize which one to use. And all multi meters use a different ports for different values. I used the probe style leads and had zero issues with it.

Does your Herbert have external bias check points? If I'm not mistaken, older Herberts don't (not sure what year that changed, though). I was able to bias mine using the pointy ends on the probes, just had to tilt the probes to make good contact inside the bias check points, and kinda balance 'em while I made adjustements with the screwdriver. If my probe(s) weren't making good contact, the values on the MM drifted similar to what you described.

ok! Thx for the advice guys! Gonna try some more stuff today, but if I´m lucky I´ve managed to talk a guitar tech to help me
I´m gonna try to get different plugs for my MM too....and yes, my Herbert has external biaspoints, I´m not THAT stupid ;)

I´m assuming that I should use DC right?

Yes, DC and mA readout. Set the range for 200mA.
Remove the fuse from the corresponding fuse jack for the pair you are biasing?
You did connect a speaker load to the amp didn't you?
Volumes 0?
Amp to run - not standby?
Black in black, red in red?

Wish my VH4 had external bias ports...HINT Peter!!!!

Alright! That´s what I used, but I think I gave up to quick, because I didn´t get a good connection. I followed those steps you wrote (from the website) and it didn´t work. If I cant get banan plugs I´ll try to get an extra pair of hands maybe....

Problem solved! I borrowed another, better, MM yesterday and it was MUCH easier! When I got the hang of it there were no problems!
Now I´m looking forward to playing with the JJ E34L´s
