So....I'm trying to use headphones with my AFX. I have adapters to knock the 1/4" down to an 1/8". I've tried a couple different scenarios with cable configurations, but I still get the same issue. There is a 95/5 split left/right. If I take the left headphone off, I can hear some signal on the right side, but nothing compared to the left side volume. As far as I know the adapters and cables are all stereo.

I'm using patch cables to run out of the L/R outs on the AFX. Going into a Y cable that takes the two down to a single 1/4". Then an adapter to convert down to the 1/8" needed. Have a Female/female adapter so I can plug my phones in.....still getting the same issue as if I just use a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter plugged into the Left out only....

any help?

The axefx does not have a headphone output. Its outputs are line-level, and may or may not sound ok with your setup if you figure out what you have done wrong. I would just buy a cheap and small headphone amplifier, or run it into a mixer or a computer interface that has a dedicated headphone output.

its not a matter of signal strength for the headphones. I get enough level, and it sounds pretty good to my powered monitor. I guess I just am not understanding why its a 95/5% mix L/R.

As you said, it's not a matter of power. Using headphones thru the line outs will probably change your tone significantly. Even Cliff himself doesn't recommend doing it.

hmmm....ok. Well, I guess I'll check out some headphone options.

Best bet is to get a headphone amp?

The line drivers can easily drive headphones. You just need the proper Y-cable. You need a cable that has two mono plugs into a stereo jack.

Wouldn't it be easier to just get a cheap $50 Behringer mixer and some decent headphones?

I think the best option is to get an audio interface and just run the Axe-FX into it, and headphones into the interface just as if you'd be recording... that's my plan when I get an Axe

like i said, its not a matter of the power in the phones, I get enough tone at about half output. Maybe they are quieter than they should be at the output, but its useful at that level. What I'm baffled by is the 95/5% ratio on the L/R side. I tried different stereo settings in the I/O menu, but no difference.

I'll do the headphone amp thing if I have to, but I'm running two 6 inch patch cables that I know are good into a y adapter that goes 1/4 to 1/4. Then am using a converter down to 1/8" and then female/female 1/8" for the phones to plug into. I'm not a newb at the connections and I'm getting signal in the right side, but i can only really hear it when the left side of my phones are off my ear....its very predominantly in the left side.

just a bump....with what I posed on the axe forum....

Ok, So here is what I know so far.

1 - my headphones, extension cable both work on the laptop for stereo. Getting equal volumes in the L and R channels while listening to music on the laptop.

2 - Am connecting to the Axe Fx using Headphones (1/8") > Extension cable 1/8" > Female 1/8"/Female 1/8" adapter > 1/8" Male/1/4" Female Adapter > 1/4" Male Y cable - 2 1/4" Female > 6" patch cables connected to Axe Fx L/R outputs on output 1.

3 - everything in this chain is a stereo cable except the 6" patch cables, but they are being connected into the Y cable that runs into a stereo end. and the rest of the way out.

This whole setup only gets me a mix of 95/5 L/R. What should the Axe Fx be set to in order to use a stereo setup. Input 1 I have set to Left only as its only a guitar cable plugged in and left only seems to me to be mono in. Right?

Output 1 is set to Stereo.....

I notice that on my Axe fx's input meter on the front of the device, only the left side lights up, same with the meter in the Global menu.

I'm missing something...either cable wise, or setting wise, but I'm not getting anything near stereo.

please help me as I cannot tweak properly with only one ear, lol.....

The Y-cable is wrong. It needs to be a stereo to dual-mono splitter cable.

ok, it is stereo on both ends. So, one scenario would be to exchange the Y cable...is there another option? using stereo patch cables or something else?
