I'm in need of a new delay pedal; my DD3 crapped out on me after years. I'd like something simple, as I don't use delay a lot in my cover band, but see the need for it more with some songs we've added.

I'm looking at the Carbon Copy, Carbon Copy Bright, and the Flashback. I may use it to thicken some leads or do some Pink Floyd stuff. I want something that can be heard in the mix, even thought I play a Splawn and and we occasionally throw in a second guitar player.

Thanks, guys!

I've been using the flashback for years and love it. I play a Splawn as well and it works great. I did upgrade to the x4 last year because it's nice to have a few different presets.

Cool, thanks! I'm also going to look at the Duncan Vapor Trail. Not as popular as the others, but I've heard it's a good in-between of the CC and the Flashback. I'm not super versed in delays.

I just got the SD Vapor Trail and I am very happy with it.

Love the fact you can connect a volume or expression pedal in to it to control the mix level!

I really like my keeley caverns. delay is great and it has 3 types of reverb. got it for $125 which is a great deal for all that it does.

I have the flashback X4 and I love it. Sounds great and you have 3 presents to hand at all times..

Good point. I forgot to mention you can hook an expression pedal to the flashback as well. I just don't have room on my board for one.

Beat me to the punch on asking about delays.

I've got a Boss DD-20, that does what I want, but is HUGE and I'd like something smaller...that's what she said

Might try the CC since it seems to be extremely popular

If you've been using the DD3... why not just get another one? Or repair the one you have? The Flashback is good too. That'd be my choice after a DD3/5/XYZ. I had an Empress Superdelay and I reaaaaaallly liked how it sounded. But it broke. And @ like $450, that wasn't something I could tolerate.

I've had the CC since they came out and still love that thing. Strymons have come and gone (still have a DIG) but the CC is just the perfect simple delay for me.

Had a couple long chip DD-3s here last year. One had an "analog mod" and one was the standard old one that everyone wants. They were all great but the carbon just has a vibe to it that I love. Very thick yet subtle, stays out of the way while adding depth and space and works great in fx loops. The modulation on the repeats is great too.

Have had all 3 and prefer the Carbon Copy. But I always end up on the "analog delay" preset when using digital delays. The SD Vapor Trail looks interesting though.

Interested in this thread. I've got a DD3 and love it for it's simplicity and sound, but my next delay pedal will have to have tap temp on it. It's a must, IMHO.

In front or in the loop? I try to not use the loop on my QR and I am wondering how the TC would sound in front.

I use it in the loop. I never run any effects up front but I'm guessing it would work alright. I use the loop to take my volume down so I always run the loop on my amp.

For a while I was running my loop and using a Decimator G-string. Made the rig dead quiet, but the QRs aren't really that noisy that its really even necessary. I do find a slight difference in tone when the loop is on.

Just read good things about the Keeley Magnetic Echo and a comparison to the CC. Ugh... Decisionsx4

I do notice a tonal difference with the loop engaged but I could say that about any amp I've owned. I play at pretty loud volumes live and I've never needed a noise gate with my Splawn. I have had to use it with my other amps but the Splawn's are very quiet. Even if I don't have anything in the loop I use the loop volume as my overall volume.

I used a Digitech Hardwire DL-8 with my Splawn Quick rod. Sounds great. I would highly recomend them. They can be found cheap on eBay. The delay algorithms are from the Lexicon PCM family. If they are good enough for Luke, they should work for everyone. Lol.
