found this on CL just now - http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg/1503905815.html

I offered $175 and the guy said yes. Assuming the speakers are all good should i do this? I kind of miss having a 1960 cab around since they're light and sound pretty good. I found a replacement handle for like $20 on ebay so that's no big deal and re-tolexing or putting a new grill cloth on might not be a bad winter project.

give me some opinions cause i said i'd pick it up today!!

I think its totally worth that. The real ones still seem a little tighter than any of the others.

well, that's the thing i have 3 other 4x12's but i've always wanted to have 1960 cab after i sold my last one a couple of years ago.
i could care less about the looks but as long as it still sounds decent that would be nice.

the store said it has 4 GT-75's and they all work. It's actually a respectable store in the area that's selling the cab which is nice.
i think i might be making a trip to the bank haha

I'd probably do it.

It is worth $175 with four working speakers IMO, but deduct $25 for each non working speaker.

i like G12 T75's so if you want to cut me a cool deal on a couple of em, that would offset the dough and almost get the cab for nothing.

The 1960 cabs are the worst "world class   " production cabinets I have ever seen in my life. I know more people taking those things apart to find broken ans stripped screws, gaps, sloppy glue work... the list goes on.

G12-T75's aren't the greatest speaker either. If you're willing to put some effort into this thing, get some good wood caulk, open her up and get ready for surgery ;)

We find them to be incredibly versatile... :)

Haha I need a cart like that at work I don't think it would survive though

well, i picked up the cab and it only took me about 2 hours to drive a round trip total of 50 miles. gotta love rush hour traffic on single lane highways

the cab, obviously, looks pretty beaten but it's all tolex damage. the wood on the cabinet is just fine, no cracks or holes anywhere. The only thing aesthetically that bothers me is that pinkish colored paint that got spilled on it. I might try to remove it or maybe paint over it with black.
plugged my les paul into the Engl powerball into this cab and i must say it sounds really, really good! the music store i got it from told me this was a house cab for a local venue that, ironically enough, i used to play shows at from time to time so i may have used this exact cab years ago

the speakers all work and sound great! They're Celestion G12T-75 speakers too which is pretty cool. I have 2 vintage 30's laying around so maybe i'll try an X config with this cab...or just let it be
All in all, for $175 i think i did pretty well.

here are two quick pics i took of it:

Mineral spirits or goo gone? :dunno:

I think 1960A's get entirely too much flak from people. It's easy to attack the plastic corners/handles, MDF back and claim it's of poor build quality. I think the stock 75's sound great with certain amps and don't see them as an inferior speaker at all. These cabs have their own sound, and they do it very well. It's kinda like a chili cheese dog, not made of top quality ingredients, put together a bit sloppy, but fuck they taste good.

I take it I'm in the minority with my 1960A opinion? Oh well.

Yeah I think there an ok cab. I mean not the greatest put together and build quality. I think they sound pretty good with the 75's. I think there a cool sounding speaker for sure.

Not at all, they just need some lovin' to be great. I have plugged and redrilled my share of holes on those cabs though. I don't know what is in the drinking water at the Marshall plant, but it might be time to test it again.

I agree 100%.

I have two 1960BV cabs that I got in 1999 that have seen 10 years of solid gigging/touring and they have never failed me. The "shitty, cheap plastic handles" have never broken or even come loose. The thing that really sucks about Marshall cabs to me is the crappy casters. They don't last very long. Other than that, my cabs still sound killer and work for me every time.

To the OP - don't let the cab snobs fuck with you. That is a fine cab and you got a good deal despite its aesthetic issues. :2thumbsup:

Are Marshall cabs the best cabs ever made? Are they the be all end all? Nope. But they sound great and are very affordable.
