Long story short:
I’m selling a 34 year old Ibanez listed on Marketplace
I see & have felt zero neck pocket cracks- sent extra pics to this guy. I’m an honest dude- those who have dealt with me know that.

Dude has been pretty persistent about wanting this- we’ve gone back & forth on price several times over the last few weeks.
He came up a bit from his lowest offer, I dropped from my highest asking by about $225.

(Yesterday) He hits me with “I can do $875 if you can meet today”. I’m ready to just sell this & im not taking a loss, so agree.

We meet, talk quickly (he needs to jet back for an appointment), he looks it over in hand, buys it.

I get a text at 10:30 last night with a pic of a huge crack that was not there when I took pics, or when he looked it over in person.

Looking back at a pic, it looks like there was possibly a faint start of a crack that looked like a scratch, but it doesn’t follow the crack. I honestly had not had any issues with this guitar. He also mentioned the condition of the case this morning. I have no idea what he did to that guitar in the 5 1/2 hours from my sale, to his complaints. Case condition was evident when seeing it & when it was open.

I offered $50 refund, he wants $180 (not happening),

What’s fair here.. is this buyers remorse? Am I on the hook for anything here?

Not going to lie, I did notice the crack in the first pic. Hard to see, but I did....then his pic confirms and follows the same line.

Not sure. But I would just take the money back and move on. But that's just me. I see the crack in both pics, it's the right thing to do.

Sure you are a great dude, and you didn't see it. Honest mistake. Or offer a discount and give some cash back.

🤷🏻‍♂️
Just my 2 cents.

Which specific RG is that? Tilt joint bolt on joints from Ibanez RGs are notorious for cracking in that specific spot. 9 times out of 10 it's a tension crack and mostly in the finish. Nearly every single Ibanez RG and JEM (12+) that I've owned with those joints had those cracks. Some have been downright disgusting looking and it never went through to the wood. I'd tell him since he already lowballed you so much on the price and rushed through overlooking the guitar than it's on him. You offered him $50 back, take it or leave it.

Here's the real bad one I mentioned:

I dont think 180 is crazy honestly- i'd be pissed if something broke right after I got it. You technically dont owe him anything, but I personally would always rather the buyer not feel slighted and build a good reputation as a seller. But you have to decide whether you care.

I don't see the crack in the original pics at all, especially nothing pronounced as the pics he was sent.

EDIT: Okay, I do see it now. But how did it expand so much in one day I wonder?

Exactly my concern.. did he drop it, leave it in trace for a few hours. It was not in that condition when he looked at it, nor before

maybe change in humidity/temp, or camera/lighting?

It’s an older 565

Caveat emptor.

All FTF sales are final in my world. You don't know what happened to it in the time he took possession of it. Crack existed, he made it worse with some error in handling? Looks a lot more extreme now. He only briefly looked it over cause he had an appointment. Now he has an appointment with disappointment.

Looks like he relisted it already (lower price, priced as if he’s getting the $ he asked for), with an updated pic of the crack.

He stresses it’s in great shape playing wise & electronics wise.
Buyers remorse?

I could understand humidity but they live in the same area, it was an in person deal.
yeah not sure man. As an RG fan, I'm kind of expecting a finish crack there in most cases, but it does look pretty advanced in that last pic . Once the cash changes hand in person, it's a done deal normally, so up to the seller what he wants to do really.
