I am tracking a modern hard rock record with this distorted guitars in the veign of Foo-Fighters etc and need a suggestion on a bridge guitar pickup. We already have one Fender American Custom Shop Big Apple loaded with Motor City Afwayu's , and now I need a pickup for the PRS to help create a wall of sound. I am looking for something with nice bottom end, tons of low mids, and a non hyped top end. I am not interested in a bright pickup. When I bought the guitar it had Pearly Gates, and I want the opposite of that! lol. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

In case you want to know what amps we are using they are -

1. Marshall JCM800 2204 (Friedman Mod)
2. Diezel VH4
3. Mesa Boogie Dual Rec (3 channel)

Cabs

1. Mills Afterburner (v30's)
2. Diezel 412R (Gray cloth - v30/v12's x)
3. Marshall 1960BX (greenback 25's)

SD JB. can't go wrong with that. cheap too. make sure you have a stand alone tone control for that p'up for max flexibility.

Thanks James! I have been listening to those clips. The weird thing is, I like the WCR Ironman an awful lot, but there is not very much info out there on it. It seems to have ballsy low end and a natural top.

The voicing on the JB's has always bothered me. It's not bad, just not my fav.

+1 on WCR

Dimarzio has a wide selection of excellent pickups. I personally think they're a cut above most everything Seymour Duncan makes.

Rockfield - Cheap but sounds pretty good. http://www.rockfieldpickups.com/

IMHO use a GOOD Les Paul rather than the PRS you'll be much happier with the end result of the recorded tone, they a great ass end and good mids, PRS to me I don't know they just don't sit right I just recently got rid of mine but could never get it to cut through in a mix with my amps, maybe they are that much better with a Mesa who knows?

The Ironman is a very cool pickup if you're looking for super high output. It's around 22k, alnico V...so it's super thick, somewhat compressed and will drive the front end of our amp like crazy. It still retains a more organic, slightly raw mids because of the magnet. Lots of lows and low mids, and a rolled off high. Very similar to the Bare Knuckle Warpig. If you want something more tight and chugging with a ceramic magnet, check out the BKP Miracle Man. Tighter lows, with a more focused mid and a little brighter top end. These are all basically for metal tones exclusively.

The Godwood kicks serious ass too. Less output with a more neutral EQ curve and more open.

Your description has Warpig written all over it. That said discussing how well it will make a wall of sound with your other guitar, especially for recording, is a moo point.

Actually I do like the JB suggestion, it gives a really nice, thick tone with VH4 & mixes well with other stuff.

Other than that I think you already have all you need to create a wall of sound & beyond. You might wanna invest that money in speakers instead.

Bare Knuckle Holy Diver or Miracle Man, maybe Warpig if it needs to be hotter.

Seems you already like your motor cities, try the nuke similar to the warpig.

if you want powerful aggressive wall of sound but not as "heavy metal" try the hell baby.

PRS Tremonti Treble. I now have them in all of my guitars. This pickup rocks for the modern hard rock stuff, just take a listen to my band. Both myself and our other guitarist use these pickups. They react well to different guitars while still retaining a certain nice characteristic. Great clean, tapped, or driven to hell.

Based strictly on the tone you say you want... DiMarzio Tone Zone. Does EXACTLY what you just described.

I have to vote for the WCR Ironman. I had it in my PRS when I had one, and it was fat, but clear. I put it in my Ibanez to fatten it up. I have just ordered an Afwayu for my Gutierrez. Best part is you can order it with any magnet you want. You can put an A2 in there to sweeten it up, and reduce the output, or a ceramic to tighten it up. I have found that the A5 is the winner, with the A2 in the Ironman neck.

WCR is in need of some good sound clips. The descriptions on his web site are not that great.
