I have an Ibanez RGT42fm that is mahogany neck through, and i've tried a couple different humbuckers that sound good in other guitars, but in this guitar it's all bass and scooped mids. duncan distortion was too dark, PJ Marx were too thin. I haven't had much experience with mahogany guitars to know what's the best pickup for that wood type. i favor EVH tone, and this guitar is the opposite right now.

the guitar is not an expensive one, and it's just a backup guitar...so i don't want to spend a bunch on it. is there a cheap option out there worth trying?

until i get new pickups, i rewired my tone control to be a bass cut control. that helped.

i used to have bill lawrence pickups in a similar guitar and they sounded great...i forgot about those.

EMG's...i wasn't sure they would sure the issue, haven't tried them in any mahogany guitar.

Bare Knuckle pickups aren't exactly cheap....

Bare Knuckle VHII.
Lower output all mids and high end. Try and find used. Should work great in a dark guitar as there pretty bright.

Dimarzio X2N will liven shit up while keeping the heavy mahogany sound. Any BKP will be excellent however. I got a dark sounding pickup in a dark sounding guitar and it still sounds awesome
