I'm debating on which to get. I want something that rocks hard. I'll eventually have both. But, I want something that has a nice thick distortion (think porcupine tree-ish). I'm playing through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

If you're looking for Porcupine Tree-ish distortion, I believe someone was selling a bad cat Xtreme distortion pedal in the classifieds, Thats a really gnarly pedal and being as Steven Wilson uses Bad Cat amps, the Lynx, that would get you very close.

realizing I didnt answer the initial question. The suhr riot is a distortion pedal, and the ocd is an overdrive, so go with the riot if those are the only 2 options.

The OCD is labeled as an overdrive, but to me it acts more like a distortion pedal, albeit a warm distortion.

Ya the OCD has far too much gain to be labeled an overdrive.

It does have a lot of gain but it is an overdrive.

Check out the fuzzrocious Oh See Demon if you want a cooler/better version.

It may be an overdrive, but IMHO it doesn't compress like one at all. If I'm gonna "clean boost" the front of an amp, my TS9 is a much better choice for that kinda thing. On the other hand, when I want some crunchy grit a la older Zep and such, my OCD sounds MILES better than my stock TS9 in front of my Bassman.

Yeah I think the OCD shines in front of a clean amp. I don't like it at all as a boost but as a stand alone dirt , it's great

Yep, exactly what I use mine for. It makes for a great crunch tone.

Had a Riot,Pinnacle,OCD,Plextortion and a couple more and sold them all.

Sounds like pedals....Duh.... I wanted an amp tone from them. Nope.

Just got a Bogner red. It`s stayin`.

Just ordered a blue too.

Chris

Riot gets my vote between those too. But I'm with 7 Stringer. . . . . RED  I just bought a Blue and I'm equally impressed.

I have an OCD, Red, and Triple Wreck. Some other thread was comparing the Red to Wreck for a stand alone distortion pedal with moderate to crushing gain. I knew the thread poster and let him borrow my Wreck. It is a totally crushing pedal. I love my Red and it gives a great Bogner tone and more subtle gain, but the Triple Wreck will make a Tele thru a clean amp sound like a Recto half stack.

Play one. It is a monster in a box.

Good luck on the Tone Quest.

I fully agree.
