Need speaker wattage/power amp wattage input

I'm getting into the pa game . Simple question. 4 Ohm sub cab with 2 1000 RMS watt speakers (each speaker is 8 ohms). Do you power this with at 4 ohms with 1000 watts, or 4 ohms with 2,000 watts?

4ohms 2000w MINIMUM..Headroom is the name of the game with subs. You never want an amp to approach clipping that will fry your speaker way faster than over powering. If you need something on a budget the Yamaha P series are great for subs..But always buy something bigger than you think you need with subs...
