I'm thinking about picking up a cheaper rack multi-efx unit just to tinker with in a possible W/D/W setup. I would like it to be able to do stereo and have access to at least Reverb, Delay, and Chorus. other effects including pitch shifting, flanger, etc. would be nice but if it's going to push me into a larger price range then it's not worth it.

I've been looking into some rack effects stuff by Alesis. Any good? I know some people use the Quadraverb or the Midiverb but which one(s) are good and which ones are junk?

I know Digitech has a ton of rack gear but my friend had an older unit that was just complete trash (can't remember the exact model). the GSP1101 looks nice but i don't want to spend that much for something i'm going to tinker with.

Then there's the G-Major. I've heard a lot of hit or miss things about this as far as functionality, e.g. people having problems with the knobs or other problems with the unit not turning on. These can be had fairly cheap now that the second edition is out though.

Any others i should be aware of??

Give the BOSS SE-70 a try and see what you think :)

In the UK you can get them for much less ££ than what you would pay for a G-Major, and IMO theyre easily as good if not better. I'm not sure about how much they go for in the USA though..

what are the differences between the SE-50 and SE-70? Is it substantial enough to warrant getting the 70? There are a bunch of 50's on the bay for less than $100 but only one 70 and it's like $200 i think.
I also had one of those half-rack boss noise suppressors and to be honest, the quality was really kind of below average. Are these units really noisy?

ahhh the rocktron intellifex was what i was thinking of! How are the effects on that and is it really noisy?

Do any of these have built in noise-gates?

No the SE-70 isn't a noisy unit at all, the quality is great and also the quality of the FX is top notch. The Stereo Delay and Pan Delay settings sound massive! The Pitch and Chorus sound good and the Reverb is also great too

i found some cool info on both the SE-50 and SE-70 at http://www.bossarea.com/other/se50.asp and http://www.bossarea.com/other/se70.asp
The 70 seems like it could be a lot of fun but i might have trouble finding one. the one on ebay is about $250 BIN and is also coming from the UK so there might be an issue with the voltage.

I will sell ya my Rocktron Xpression. PM me if interested....Minty in box, manual...all the goodies.

Yeah it's worth getting one if you can find one without much trouble! The voltage isnt an issue, if I'm not mistaken it runs on either 9VAC or 9VDC. Can't remember exactly though as i don't have access to mine at the moment.

the original blackface intellifex is literally the quietest unit I've ever owned. (and no, I wasn't using the "hush")

intellifex looks pretty cool!

does anyone have any experience with the alesis quadraverb?

I have a quadraverb thats been sitting here for years. it was great when i used it, but havent touched it in years. hard to remember at this point.

I lost the power supply but new ones are available on ebay:

Rocktron Intellifex and Chameleon2000 are some of the most transparent FX units ever made for guitar IMHO.

They have the same basic effects, but the Chameleon adds a bypassable 4-ch preamp and has longer delay times.
Definitely superior to the Boss and Alesis units in my opinion for the basic effects. Fantastic chorus, delays and gorgeous verbs.

just thought of this, what about T.C. Electronics G-Sharp? Seems cheap price-wise and has delay, reverb, chorus, and some other stuff.
anyone have any experience with this guy?

I got an Intellifex lying around if you want to work out something.
