Hey guys,

Im making an Iso cab for my VH4 and bought a Neutrik speaker jack. Has positive, negative and Ground connections but from what I see on the net, I only have to solder the positive and negative connections to the speaker? The link here shows a picture of the jack and if I do not need to do anything with the Ground, can I remove the screw on the side of the jack holding the Ground in place? Its sort of inconvenient to have that screw there when Im gonna have to place the jack in a hole with the screw rubbing on the side.

Do I have to do anything with the Ground connection? Just wanna make sure I do this properly because I definitely don't want anything to happen to the VH4.

Thanks

You should only need to connect the positive and negative terminals to the speaker. But I would also connect the ground and negative terminals together with a very short length of speaker wire. They will be connected electrically anyway if you are always using mono 1/4" cables. But connecting them together will prevent the problem of the negative terminal not being connected to the amp. That would only happen if you used a cable that has stereo plugs on it and uses the ground terminal wired up but not the negative terminal. Unlikely, but better not to allow it to ever be an issue should you encounter such a cable.

This is assuming you are running the mono VH4. I'm assuming the intention is to run a single mono speaker cable, and that the fact this jack supports stereo or balanced mono connections was not the intention for using it.

Without knowing what the side screw does I wouldn't remove it. If it doesn't fit when you are installing it, remove it temporarily and slide the jack through, then re-install the screw once the jack is in place.

Hey there,

Thanks a lot for the reply. Your right, I have the Mono VH4 and want to connect it to only one speaker for my Iso Cab.

I see the screw holds the Ground connection in place, but I figured if Im not using the ground connection, I could just remove the screw that holds it in place.

I will solder a speaker wire to the Negative to Ground connection as well, but just wondering, since the VH4 has a plug with a Ground connection already, would I really need to worry about using the Ground connection on the jack since the jack will be connecting the speaker to the VH4 that already has a Ground?

Thanks again.
