What IS that thing?? :inlove:

I still don't like the head stock, the fret markers or the string through. I'd rather have that tail piece to maintain tension control over the strings. A little trick Mark Abrahamian taught us  Which TOTALLY works, by the way.

ULTRA GP, went out of production in the 80s I believe. If you want one, Eastwood is your best bet.

Appreciate the link

I'd like to find one of these someday just to say that I own an Ovation that isn't fashioned from a plastic cereal bowl that slides off your lap every 5 seconds.

According to my guitar calendar, Ovation was actually the first to put a Piezo electric pickup in an acoustic and basically created the acoustic/electric market segment.

I like the higher end ovations plugged in sound great IMO, not as big a fan of them acoustically. That said, I don't own one :)

I heard somewhere years back that Rupert Neve was the man behind Piezo technology, at least as it's incorporated in acoustic guitars. Credible?

the higher end Ovation AE's sound awesome plugged and acoustically

This is my favorite guitar. Too bad they made them for such a short period of time. To me the body shape strikes the right visual balance between strat and Les Paul. More companies should take on this body shape today! It also feels more balanced in terms of weight distribution on your knee than a Les Paul.

The guitar pictured in the first post was modded to be a through-body string setup. The stock GP has a bridge very similar to what's on Gibsons, mounted above the body. The knobs in that guitar are also not stock. The originals come with top-hat style cream colored knobs.

Pickups are Dimarzio Super 2's, but with a rectangular cream colored look.

For a similar looking modern day guitar I'd look at a Baker. They are very expensive, but have a very similar look. Otherwise the GP is an awesome guitar if you can find one!

We're on the same train of thought in regard to the shape. Looks kinda like a double cut away LP but doesn't appear to have a carved top from this angle. Thanks for the info, Robert!
