Went to guitar center with a mint 1989 Mesa 50 cal + 6l6`s.They offered me $225 trade-in. Needless to say I grabbed my amp and walked out. Never again.

Ya I always get GREAT DEALS from their used area.
I didn’t think it worked both ways. ?

Head or combo? How much you looking to get?

I did a Craigslist deal with a guy yesterday to trade pedal boards. He had a PT-2 and I had a PT-JR that we swapped. He was looking to downsize his pedal board, and I just wanted the case it came with (both had the tour cases). We were both pretty happy with the deal. I stopped over his place as he un-mounted his pedals and power supply, and I gave him some patch cables in good faith. We swapped boards and I left.

The next day (today), I ran into him again at our local Sam Ash. The Voodoo Labs PP2+ didn't fit on the JR, and he was looking to trade it in on a different power supply. I stopped him and offered to buy it instead. I got it for $80, but I don't think he would have got half that from Scam Cash. I also helped him pick out a power supply that worked for his setup, and a day later, we're both even happier the trade worked out. He got a smaller (and lighter) board setup, and I got the PP2+ and bracket that was mounted up originally.

Guitar stores and pawn shops almost always give underwhelming offers at best. Your best bet is to sell it on the used market.

These are great Mesas even tho they got overshadowed by Mark series.

I don't mean to sound rude, but did you expect any different?

I do sort of agree with expectations. They buy at 40% of used market value and maybe 50% on a trade. They sell used stuff cheap, and you know they aren't losing.

They prey on idiots and the desperate. Like a pawnshop. You aren't going to come out on favor.

Xmas time is probably a good time to buy from and a bad time to sell to GC. Every time I go there in December, they have a ton of used stuff because people are desperate for cash for Xmas shopping. I stopped there on the way to pick up my folks from the airport a few years ago and scooped up a very clean Roland Cube 30 for $60. IIRC, I doubled my money when I flipped it on CL a few years later.

Didn't know. Never been to a guitar center, all they had was junk. LTD guitar strings 1/4 inch off the neck etc.

I was wanting to trade for supro amp they had @ 599 so I figured they would at least 375-400. The mesa would sell way faster than the supro oh well live and learn. M

They look at ebay completed listings, take the lowest price sold and give you 50%. Pretty much standard between them, Music go Round or a pawn shop.

I think any trade-in is going to always be a super lowball. Not just GC, but anywhere. The only benefit is a quick sale if needing to unload something quickly, but lowball is the price for speed.
