So i finally got the .50 caliber + in. I plugged her in, turned it on...dissapointed, sounded weak, and the sound was cutting in and out. So i replaced the power tubes with a couple JJ 6l6's and cleaned the effects loop jacks. Turned it back on...better, but still not great...an hour or two later of tweaking and i'm starting to get some good tones out of it:

It's got a pretty damn good clean tone too.

Oh yeah, settings:

Gain - 8
Master - 4
Lead Master - 3
Treble - 4.5
Middle - 3
Bass - 2.5
Presence - 3.5

Graphic EQ in a V shape.

No boosts, just straight in with my old Yamaha rgx612a.

This amp has a ton of gain, as well as nails that Mesa liquid lead sound, which is a big reason i bought it. Digging it alot so far.

sounds good.. are you the anomaly on the megadeth forums as well? There is a .50 cal at a local shop but it doesnt ahve the eq so I never bothered with it.

edit: Oh yeah it sounds great.

Thanks for listening.

Yeah, that's me. I used to hang around the Harmony-Central boards too, until i got banned. :(

The onboard EQ is definitely a cool feature, as it shapes the sound quite a bit. I think the amp sounds great for leads with the EQ off though... does that sorta smooth Santana type lead sound, although it's a little too honky for rhythm with the EQ off IMO.

Definitely more tweaking to do. Gonna try some different pre-amp tubes later on.
